PC Drifts to Charleston Southern for Three More on Friday/Saturday

CHARLESTON, S.C. – A crucial three-game series in the Big South Conference domain kicks off for the Presbyterian College softball team this weekend, traveling to Chucktown for their second-to-last league set on the road against Charleston Southern. Completing a two-week stretch away from home, the Blue Hose will enact a Friday doubleheader with the Buccaneers starting at 4:00, segueing into the finale at noon the following day.

Renewing a 2022 batch that saw five meetings versus CSU and two conference tournament contests, Presbyterian hopes for a similar result to last year's series in Charleston where they claimed two out of three victories, later responsible for the Bucs' elimination in the postseason. PC has taken a W in four of their last six Big South encounters, currently at 4-7 inside league competition.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
- Sporting six conference wins out of 14 tries to give them the fifth-place nod in the latest league standings, Charleston Southern has found themselves in a bit of a mid-April rut by dropping four of their last five encounters. Able to salvage a Game 3 pitcher's duel four days ago in an 11-inning toss-up at Longwood, the Buccaneers took a trip to Columbia yesterday for a two-parter against the South Carolina Gamecocks, falling by a combined clip of 16-2.

- As much as head coach Christi Musser's club has struggled when playing the visitors' role (currently at 6-15 away from home), CSU has posted a 4-2 mark in their most recent affairs from their own backyard, including a four-run triumph over league-leading Campbell in the second half of a doubleheader nearly two weeks back.

- Since that 8-4 result that toppled the Fighting Camels, Charleston Southern has failed to put up more than two runs in the ensuing six dates, however able to win two of them on 1-0 shutouts. Senior Annah Junge has compiled 15 of 17 CSU victories in the circle, throwing a grand total of 162 innings this spring.

LAST TIME OUT
- A seven-run avalanche at the series' midway point followed by a 3-1 victory in the finale allowed head coach David Williams to achieve triple digits in the win column while granting his squad consecutive W's at Winthrop. Sophomore standout Morgan Hess never left the circle in back-to-back complete game efforts last weekend, conceding just three runs combined to boost her win count up to eight.

- PC's Game 2 eruption – falling behind by a pair after one frame only to clear the fence in three straight innings down the stretch that turned the contest on its head – resulted in the second-longest uninterrupted scoring streak of the campaign by the Blue Hose while simultaneously signifying their second performance of 2023 with a trio of homers in a singular outing.

- Mallory Fletcher, Kendall Owens, and Lath Freeman all went yard as the floodgates opened to tie the series at one all, turning the heavy lifting to the defense in Game 3 that finished up their second year in a row taking two from the Eagles. Hess threw six scoreless innings in each of her appearances over the weekend, setting the stage for the closing bout to be decided entirely in the 4th.

- True freshman Morgan Farthing announced her presence in the first two starting nods of her collegiate career to land inside Big South action, manning third-base and posting two extra-base swings, three hits altogether, three runs scored, and three runs batted in herself within a 24-hour period. The Pennsylvania product ultimately accounted for the game-winning play in Sunday's final act, gaining a two-score triple that made the difference in the contest.
