Reeves Grand Slam Carries Blue Hose Past Spartans in Series Opener

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Behind the power of a six-run third, the Presbyterian College baseball team opened its Big South series on Friday with a 10-6 victory over USC Upstate from Cleveland S. Harley Park in Spartanburg. Dalton Reeves paced the offense on Friday with a grand slam and matched a career-high with five runs knocked in.

HOW IT HAPPENED 
- USC Upstate opened the scoring in the second off of a two-run homer to push the Spartans out to the early lead on Friday.
- PC responded in the third with a pair of RBI singles from Brody Fahr and Joel Dragoo that evened the score at two.
- The Blue Hose capped the big scoring inning with a grand slam off the bat of Dalton Reeves to push the guests to a 6-2 lead after 2.5 innings.
- The guests pushed across two more in the fifth with a sacrifice fly from Dragoo before an RBI single from Reeves gave the Blue Hose an 8-2 advantage.
- The Spartans added a run in the sixth off of a solo homer to straightaway center to make it 8-3 PC.
- Presbyterian pushed across a pair of runs in the eighth with a stolen base from Trey Fenderson before a throwing error allowed Chase Hughes to scamper home. The eighth was capped with an RBI double from Jay Wetherington that pushed the Blue Hose advantage to 10-3 after 7.5 innings.
- The Spartans pushed across three in the home half of the eighth to cut it to a 10-6 game headed to the ninth inning.
- Tanner Smith shut the door in the ninth to give the Blue Hose a 10-6 series opener on Friday evening.
 
NOTABLES
- Reeves helped pace the offense as he matched his career-high with five runs knocked in on the heels of his grand slam. It's the Blue Hose catcher's fifth home run of conference play as he's connected on five of the 20 PC homers in Big South action.
- The Blue Hose third inning slam was the first grand slam by a Blue Hose player since Noah Lebron connected on one in the 22-8 victory on May 7, 2022 over CSU.
- Fahr picked up his team-high 17th multi-hit game of the season with a pair of hits including his 10th double of the season in the victory.
- He extended his hit streak to 11 straight and his reached base streak has pushed to 18 consecutive contests.
- Dragoo and Fenderson also tallied multiple base knocked in the win on Friday for the Blue Hose.
- Duncan Howard grabbed his third win of the season tossing six innings while compiling five strikeouts to improve to 3-3 on the season. With the win, Howard has now tied Bud Jeter for fifth in the DI career record book for wins in his PC career with 13.
- PC improved to 5-0 when scoring 10+ runs on the season following the 10-run performance in the series opener.
- The Blue Hose six-run third inning is the third inning with 5+ runs for PC in its past six contests. Presbyterian began the games with ETSU (April 19) & Gardner-Webb (April 22) scoring six and seven respectively.
