Blue Hose Split Senior Day Doubleheader with Longwood

CLINTON, S.C. – Behind strong pitching and timely hitting in game two from a trio of Blue Hose arms, the Presbyterian College baseball team earned a split on Saturday with a 4-2 victory in game two of a doubleheader with Longwood at the PC Baseball Complex. The Lancers got a 12-2 win in the opener of the twinbill with the Blue Hose.

HOW IT HAPPENED IN GAME ONE 
- Longwood opened the scoring in the second with three runs to jump out to the early lead on the Blue Hose.
- The Lancers increased the lead in the fifth with an RBI double that made it a 4-0 lead for the guests.
- The guests pushed across five runs in the sixth including a grand slam that gave Longwood a 9-0 lead after 5.5 innings.
- Longwood added an RBI double in the eighth that gave the guests a 10-0 advantage.
- PC got on the board in the eighth with a pair of RBI singles from Ryan Ouzts and Noah Lebron to cut the deficit to 10-2.
- The guests got the two runs back in the ninth to make it a 12-2 final in game one of the twinbill.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED IN GAME TWO 
- The Lancers got on the board first in game two with a pair of runs in the third to take the early 2-0 lead.
- In the seventh, PC recorded an infield single from Trey Fenderson before a Lancer fielding error allowed the Blue Hose to even it at two.
- The Blue Hose pulled ahead with an RBI single from Jack Gorman before a Brody Fahr sacrifice fly gave PC a 4-2 lead after seven.
- Presbyterian relied on the arms of Charlie McDaniel, Fenix DiGiacomo and Tanner Smith to get the final six outs and get the Blue Hose a split of Saturday's doubleheader.
 
NOTABLES
- In game one, Fahr and Ouzts led the offense with a pair of hits for each player before in the nightcap freshman Evan Cuervo tallied a two-hit game which included his fifth double of the season.
- Fahr's two-hit performance in game one marked his 20th multi-hit game of the season to lead all PC bats in 2023.
- Ouzts was able to extend his hit streak on Saturday to a team-high six in a row as the Blue Hose right fielder tallied three hits and an RBI in the doubleheader.
- Kyle Decker has now reached base safely in seven straight contests to lead the way for PC.
- In game two, McDaniel tossed a season-high 7.1 innings allowing only a pair of runs and totaling three strikeouts to earn his fourth win of the season. He has now tied Beau Dees for third in the DI Career record book for wins with his 15th as a member of the Blue Hose.
- With his shutout inning to earn his seventh save of the season, Smith now moves into a tie for fourth in the single-season DI record book with seven saves. The Laurens, S.C. native also is in sole possession of fifth in the career DI record book with eight saves as a Blue Hose.
- Prior to first pitch in game two on Saturday, the Blue Hose honored its 2023 senior class which included Decker, William Farrar, Alex Flood, Chase Hughes, Kyle Merkle, Dalton Reeves and Logan Ymker.
