Dewberry Homers Twice in Setback at Radford

RADFORD, VA. – The Presbyterian College baseball team was unable to overcome a fast start from the host Radford on Friday as the Highlanders picked up a 6-4 victory over PC at Sherman Carter Memorial Stadium. Freshman Amman Dewberry tallied two homers in the defeat.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-  Similar to Thursday night, Radford jumped out to the early lead in the opening frame via an RBI single to gain the early 1-0 advantage.
- The Highlanders extended their lead in the second with three runs to make it 4-0 after two frames.
- The hosts pushed across a two-run homer in the fourth to make it a 6-0 lead for the Highlanders after four innings.
- PC got on the board in the fifth with a leadoff homer from Dewberry before Jay Wetherington added an RBI groundout in the frame.
- The three-run fifth was capped with an RBI single off the bat of Noah Lebron to make it 6-3 at the halfway point on Friday.
- Dewberry connected on his second homer in as many innings in the sixth that cut the Highlanders lead to 6-4 after 5.5 innings.
- The Blue Hose loaded the bases in the ninth before the Highlanders closed it down to earn the 6-4 victory on Friday.
 
NOTABLES
- Chase Hughes picked up his fourth three-hit game of the season and his fifth multi-hit game of the campaign to pace the offense on Friday afternoon.
- Fahr tallied his team-best 23rd multi-hit game of the campaign with his two hits in the contest.
- He has totaled 40 hits in league play to push his league average to .408 to lead the PC offense including 11 extra base hits and 20 runs knocked in.
- Jack Gorman picked up his 14th game with two or more hits on Friday as well.
- Dewberry's two homers in the contest mark the second straight day a PC batter has tallied two in the same contest and the fourth Blue Hose multi-homer performance this season.
- Sophomore Fenix DiGiacomo tossed four scoreless innings in relief tallying four strikeouts for the PC bullpen. DiGiacomo's four strikeouts on Friday mark the season-high for the right-hander over his 10 bullpen appearances throughout 2023.
