WILMINGTON, N.C. – Freshman
Ashley Miller recorded 10 kills and 11 digs in her collegiate debut but the Presbyterian College volleyball team fell 3-1 (14-25, 25-23, 16-25, 18-25) to Stetson in the UNCW Tournament on Friday afternoon.
How it Happened
- Stetson scored the first four points of the match. PC scored five of the next seven points behind the play of junior Hannah Rowe and senior Hailey Grocholski cutting Stetson's lead to 7-5. However, the Blue Hose were not able to get any closer in set one as they dropped the set, 25-14. Rowe had five kills in the set.
- In the second set, the Blue Hose behind kills from Rowe, seniors Kinsey Bailey and Kasey Battle jumped out to an early 5-1 lead. Stetson scored eight of the next nine points taking a 9-6 lead. PC answered with a 6-2 run taking a 12-11 lead on a service ace by junior Courtney Aulbaugh. The lead exchanged hands with several ties until with Stetson leading 23-21 the Blue Hose scored four unanswered points to win the set, 25-23. Aulbaugh had three service aces in the set.
- In the third set, Presbyterian jumped out to a 6-3 lead after a kill by Rowe. PC pushed their lead to 9-4 after a freshman Courtney Williams kill. At one point in the set, the Blue Hose led 13-6. Stetson recorded 19 of the next 22 points to close out the set, 25-16.
- In the fourth set with the score tied at two, Stetson scored two straight points regaining the lead. Then, PC scored six of the next 10 points tying the score at eight after a Stetson service error. Stetson scored three straight points regaining the lead for good. Stetson would win the match after winning the set, 25-18.
Notables
- Rowe had eight kills and 13 digs playing in her first match for the Blue Hose after transferring from the University of Albany.
- Bailey led the Blue Hose with 13 assists.
- Four PC players recorded double-figure digs: Rowe with 13, Miller with 11, sophomore Sophia Del Valle had 11, and Aulbaugh tacked on 10 digs to the Blue Hose's efforts.
