Blue Hose Bring Home A Huge Road Win Against CSU in Big South Opener

Charleston, S.C. – The Presbyterian Blue Hose (3-9, BSC: 1-0) opened Big South Conference play with a 3-1 (24-26, 25-19, 27-25, 25-22) road win over the Charleston Southern Buccaneers (6-9, BSC: 0-1). 

The Blue Hose were led by senior setter Kinsey Bailey with
38 assists, five service aces, and 13 digs. Freshman outside hitter Ashley Miller recorded 16 kills, and eight digs. Along with senior opposite Kasey Battle with 13 kills, 13 digs, and four blocks.

"We are excited to start conference play with a win," Presbyterian coach Steve Benson said. "We've been improving and training hard during the week. We just need to keep improving each week while we train and take each conference match as an opportunity to improve"


How It Happened vs. Charleston Southern
The first set started off strong with both teams battling back and forth until the score was tied at four. PC went on a 12-2 scoring run to take a 14-6 lead behind kills from  Miller (2), Hailey Grocholski (2), Julia Yurkovich, and Battle. The Buccaneers were able to get back into the set with a 10-4 scoring run cutting PC's lead down to 18-16. With the set tied at 21, Charleston Southern scored five of the next eight points to take the set, 26-24.  

The Blue Hose scored the first four points of the second set with a service ace from Kinsey and kills from both Miller and Jordan McAda. PC was able to hold this lead for a while making the score 13-5 with five different players getting kills. Charleston was able to close the gap a bit making the score 13-9. Presbyterian then went on a 10-6 run widening the gap and making the score 23-15. The Buccaneers were able to score a few more points but not before the Blue Hose ended the set at 25-19, tying the match at one set apiece.


In the third set, PC kept their hot streak going and quickly started off up 7-1 with kills from Miller, Bailey, and two from Battle. Both teams then fought back and forth but the Blue Hose lead stayed at six with a score of 20-14. The Bucs went on a bit of a tear bringing the lead for PC down to two with a score of 20-18. Five kills down the stretch for the Blue Hose was enough for them to take the third set with a score of 27-25.

 
PC once again starts off strong in the beginning of the fourth set by running up a 4-0 lead with a service ace by Bailey and a kill from Battle. CSU is able to rally and tie up the score at 10-10. The rest of this set was neck and neck with three lead changes and great attacking on both sides of the court. After the set was tied at 22 the Blue Hose took the final set 25-22 with two big kills from Miller.

Notables
  • In the third set, which Presbyterian won 27-25, the Blue Hose had a .342 hitting percentage.
  • PC recorded 10 service aces led by Bailey's five.
  • With tonight's win, PC has won three out of their last four Big South games dating back to last year.
