Blue Hose Top UNC Asheville on the Road in Big South Matchup

ASHEVILLE, N.C. The Presbyterian College Volleyball Team (4-9, BSC: 2-0) won their third consecutive match against the UNC Asheville Bulldogs with a final score of 3-1, (23-25, 25-21, 29-27, 25-16).
 
"Good win at a tough location against a quality team," Presbyterian coach Steve Benson said. "We had a tough time finding out rhythm in the first. We fought hard through sets two and three. Then, got on a good roll in the fourth set. I'm proud of the team coming through and getting the win."
 
How it happened vs. UNC Asheville
In the opening set, Presbyterian got off to a quick start, securing an early three-point advantage, led by Kinsey Bailey's service ace. Asheville, started picking up their pace, but the Blue Hose managed to stay neck and neck at seven points each. The remainder of this set was very close, with neither team gaining more than a three-point lead. After kills from Kasey Battle, Hailey Grocholski, and Julia Yurkovich the Blue Hose were trailing by one at 19-18. Asheville later managed to take a three-point edge, but Presbyterian didn't stop fighting with kills from Yurkovich and Ashley Miller. The set remained close, but ultimately landed in Asheville's favor with a score of 25-23.
 
Once again, the Blue Hose started off strong in the second set, establishing a 4-1 lead behind a kill from Grocholski and several errors from Asheville. PC maintained the lead but the Bulldogs stay competitive, tying the score at nine points each. Asheville moved ahead 11-9, and Miller's kill helped pick up the pace for the Blue Hose. Miller follows up with two more kills, bringing the score to 14-12. The match continues to go back and forth, reaching a tie at 18. The Blue Hose scored seven of the final ten points behind Kills from Jordan McAda, Miller, and Battle which allow the Blue Hose to take the set 25-21.
 
The third set had numerous ties and several lead changes. The Blue Hose were up 18-16 after Miller and Grocholski added two more kills each. After more back and forth Asheville takes the lead 22-21. Neither team showed any signs of giving in, resulting in a 24-24 tie, forcing a win-by-two outcome. Yurkovich comes up with a big block putting the Blue Hose up by one. Presbyterian uses their final time out to regroup and then Grocholski puts down another kill tying the set at 27. An attack error by the Bulldogs followed by a decisive service ace from Courtney Aulbaugh clinched the set for the Blue Hose with a final score of 29-27.
 
PC was up one (2-1) going into the fourth set. Asheville briefly takes a two-point lead, but Miller's back-to-back kills leveled the score. Tied at four, Asheville scores two straight to go ahead, but then the Blue Hose responded with an eight-point run taking a six-point lead behind a kill from Ashley miller. The Blue Hose continue to broaden their lead 20-10 with three more kills from Miller and services aces from Grocholski and Aulbaugh. Miller secured a point with a service ace before Yurkovich recorded a kill, and then Battle ends the match with a service ace closing the fourth set at 25-16.
