Presbyterian Picks Up Road Win Over UNC Asheville in Big South Opener

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Behind goals from Alex Walker, Damorney Hutchinson, and Victor Faaborg Christensen, the Presbyterian Blue Hose (4-3-0, Big South: 1-0-0) came from behind with two goals in the final 14 minutes to defeat the UNC Asheville Bulldogs (5-3-1, Big South: 0-1-0), 3-2, on the road in the Big South Conference opener for both teams.

FROM COACH FINOTTI
"It was a great game with a lot of ebb and flow," Presbyterian coach Nick Finotti said. "I was proud of our guys for the way we adapted as we made several changes in the second half. UNC Asheville is a good team. It is tough to win on the road. We faced adversity in the game and we overcame it."

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • In the sixth minute, Hutchinson stole the ball from a UNC Asheville player near midfield. He then sprinted up the middle of the field and found a streaking Walker on the left side of the field just outside the box. Walker then beat UNC Asheville's goalkeeper Charlie Farrar and blasted a shot into the lower left corner of the goal giving the Blue Hose a 1-0 lead.
  • In the 12th minute, UNC Asheville tied the score at one when Aysa Hamid scored off an Edvin Grolimund assist.
  • In the 74th minute, the Bulldogs took the lead when Brendan Herb converted on a penalty kick.
  • In the 77th minute, Faaborg Christensen picked the ball up near midfield. He sent a long pass to a streaking Hutchinson about 10 yards out from the box. Hutchinson beat UNC Asheville's Farrar with a shot into the left corner of the goal tying the score at two.
  • A little over a minute later, Presbyterian's Jamari Busby wins a ball in front of Presbyterian's bench. He found Hutchinson sprinting down the right side of the field. Hutchinson beat a UNC Asheville defender. He passed the ball to Faaborg Christensen who was in the box about 10 yards from the goal. Faaborg Christensen blasted a shot into the back of the net for the game-winning goal in the 78th minute.
