Midweek Tilt at UNC Asheville Up Next for Women’s Soccer

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The fourth time in the past five matchups that the Presbyterian College women's soccer team will compete away from home, Wednesday evening will mark the second contest on the squad's Big South slate at UNC Asheville. First touch versus the Bulldogs is marked for 6:00 PM tomorrow on ESPN+.

Each of the last five meetings between the Blue Hose and UNCA has flipped toward the opposite direction as the one that came before, with PC earning a 1-0 victory in 2022 to close that semester on a major high note.

Head coach Brian Purcell and co. will hope to bounce back from a 3-1 setback in the first of eight conference duels over the weekend at Radford, finishing the second instance of back-to-back road battles this year on Wednesday.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT

- It's been a very streaky season to this point for the Bulldogs, a program that has already matched their total win count from the previous campaign (four). Guided by Andy McNab in his third go-around with the school, UNC Asheville has grabbed a pair of W's on their home field over other South Carolina opponents in Wofford and Furman.

- After taking a 1-0 defeat in the '23 opener, the Bulldogs went on to claim a victory in their next four appearances by a combined clip of 5-1, moving along swimmingly until a lengthy string of stalemates took over.

- Technically, UNCA hasn't tasted a win in over three weeks (the aforementioned decision against the Paladins), tangled in three straight ties with The Citadel, Mercer, and Morehead State. The Bulldogs – like the Blue Hose – fell short in their Big South opener against USC Upstate in a 2-1 stunner last Saturday.

- It seemed as if a fourth consecutive tie was in the cards after Asheville struck first in the 59th minute only to be given a receipt with under eight minutes to go. In the blink of an eye, the match switched to a loss when the Spartans converted a penalty kick as the clock read 89:59.

- Despite the literal last-second loss, UNCA still boasts four shutouts on the defensive end while putting together three multi-goal performances in the month of September.

LAST TIME OUT

- Faced with a tough draw in the Big South curtain-jerker, Presbyterian took on defending league tournament champion Radford over the weekend and fell victim to a steaming start by the Highlanders in an eventual two-score decision.

- Sophomore striker Lina-Marie Müller catalogued her second score of the semester and first career goal in conference action with a 58th-minute kick, joining classmate Lindsey Malyszek with two connections thus far in 2023.

- Last October, PC closed the season with consecutive triumphs over High Point and Asheville, wrapping up the slate with a W at Martin Stadium for the program's fifth all-time win over the Bulldogs.

- Sloan Spees was the culprit to the 1-0 final in the '22 closer, securing a 76th-minute goal that was the difference (her fifth score of her debut year that allotted the Georgia native a spot on the All-Big South Freshman Team).

- Coach Purcell's club will search for their first road victory of the calendar on Wednesday, last taking a win away from home in the aforementioned trip to High Point 11 months back.
