CLINTON, S.C. - The Presbyterian Blue Hose (9-9, Big South: 1-2) lost to the Winthrop Eagles (12-6, Big South: 3-0), 81-71, at the Templeton Center on Wednesday evening.
Samage Teel led the Blue Hose with 13 points while grabbing four rebounds and dishing out four assists.
Marquis Barnett scored 12 points.
Crosby James scored 12 points.
Jonah Pierce scored 10 points and grabbed eight rebounds to go along with a season-high five assists.
HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST HALF – Winthrop scored the game's first seven points. Presbyterian scored 10 of the next 14 points cutting Winthrop's lead to 11-10 after a three from Teel at the 13:17 mark. The Eagles outscored the Blue Hose, 12-3, over the next three minutes increasing their lead to 23-13 with 10 minutes left in the half. With Winthrop leading 28-15, Presbyterian went on a 10-0 run capped off by a layup from Barnett with 5:18 on the clock cutting Winthrop's lead to 28-25. James connected on two threes during the run. The Blue Hose were not able to get any closer the rest of the half as the Eagles took a 43-34 halftime lead.
SECOND HALF – Presbyterian scored six of the first nine points of the half cutting Winthrop's lead to 46-40 after a layup from
Jamahri Harvey at the 17:47 mark. Presbyterian was able to cut Winthrop's lead to four points three times over the next five minutes the last time after Pierce scored on a layup after an offensive rebound at the 12:30 mark. The Blue Hose were never able to get any closer than four points to Winthrop.
NOTES
- Teel's 13 points marked his 12th double-digit scoring game of the season.
- Barnett's 12-point performance was his 14th double-figure scoring game of the season and the 33rd of his career.
- James's 12 points was his third double-digit scoring game of the season and the 67th of his career.
- Pierce collected his eighth double-figure scoring game of the season with his 10 points.
