Presbyterian's Second Half Rally Falls Short at Longwood

FARMVILLE, Va.  – The Presbyterian Blue Hose (9-12, Big South: 1-5) made a furious late second half comeback cutting Longwood's lead to two points but the rally fell short as Presbyterian lost to the Longwood Lancers (14-7, Big South: 2-4), 80-70, on the road on Saturday afternoon.
 
Samage Teel paced the Blue Hose with 23 points on 8-for-11 shooting from the field. He also recorded two steals in the game. Marquis Barnett added 13 points to go along with three assists. Kobe Stewart recorded a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Trevon Reddish-Rhone rounded out Presbyterian's double-figure scorers with 10 points.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST HALF – Reddish-Rhone started the Blue Hose scoring off with a layup. Then, Longwood scored eight of the next 10 points. PC tied the score at eight at the 14:02 mark after a three from Teel and a free throw from Reddish-Rhone. Longwood regained the lead with four straight points. Another three from Teel started the Blue Hose on an 8-0 run that was capped off by a three-point play from Jonah Pierce giving the Blue Hose a 16-12 lead at 12:12. Presbyterian increased their lead to 26-18 after a three from Stewart at the 9:52 mark. The Blue Hose would have their largest lead of the half, 29-20, after a free throw from Barnett with 7:43 left in the half. Presbyterian would have a nine-point lead a couple of other times in the half the last time was after a three from Crosby James at the 5:17 mark gave the Blue Hose a 34-25 lead. Longwood went on an 11-0 run regaining the lead 36-34 with 2:43 on the clock. Longwood scored seven of the half's final 11 points taking a 43-38 halftime lead.
 
SECOND HALF – The Lancers scored eight of the first 10 points of the half taking a 51-40 lead with three minutes gone on the clock. Longwood took their largest lead 57-42 with 12:48 on the clock. PC scored 12 of the next 16 points cutting Longwood's lead to 61-54 at the 8:32 mark. Barnett scored seven points during the Blue Hose's run. Longwood scored four straight points pushing their lead back into double-figures. With 4:48 on the clock, Longwood led 70-60. Presbyterian scored eight straight points cutting Longwood's lead to 70-68 after a three-point play from Barnett at the 2:52 mark. However, the Blue Hose were not able to tie or take the lead and Longwood went on an 11-0 over the next two minutes to close out the win.
 

NOTES
  • Stewart recorded his second career double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
  • Teel collected his second straight 20-plus points scoring game with 23 points.
  • Barnett's 13 points marked his 17th double-figure scoring game of the season and the 36th of his career.
  • Reddish-Rhone tallied his fifth double-digit scoring game of the season and the 35th of his career with his 10 points.
  • Presbyterian finished the game with a 31-17 advantage in bench points.
 
NEXT GAME
The Blue Hose have a midweek bye and return to action next Saturday, January 27 at Radford.
