Blue Hose Host Weekend of Conference Matches

The Presbyterian College Blue Hose volleyball team is gearing up for an exciting weekend of home matches in Templeton Center. First, they will face off against the Winthrop Eagles on Friday, followed by a showdown with the Gardner-Webb Runnin' Bulldogs on Saturday.

The Blue Hose faced a tough road challenge against the Radford Highlanders last Saturday, falling in a three-set battle.
 
A LOOK AT THE BLUE HOSE
- The Blue Hose currently hold a 4-11 record, securing their wins in hard-fought five-set matches against Delaware State, Temple, and Southern Miss along with a straight-set victory over SC State.
- The team has averaged a .170 hitting percentage while taking 10.4 kills per set. They've also shown strength at the net, amassing 116 total blocks (1.90 blocks per set).
- Three players have tallied triple-digit kills this season, with sophomores Courtney Williams (147 kills) and Julia Yurkovich (138 kills) leading the team. Senior Hannah Rowe is close behind with 123 kills, adding depth to the offense.
- Junior setter Anna Baranski has been instrumental, totaling 459 assists (7.40 per set) while also leading the team defensively with 193 digs (3.11 per set).
- Defensively, sophomore outside hitter Courtney Williams anchors the Blue Hose at the net with 53 total blocks, 12 of which are solo efforts. Brittney Daphnis is a close second, adding 45 blocks, including six solo blocks.
 
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT – WINTHROP
- The Eagles have taken a 4-7 overall record so far this season with wins over Virginia Tech, Lafayette, Alabama State, and USC Upstate.
- The team has averaged a .198 hitting percentage while taking 12.8 kills per set.
- Junior outside hitter Avery Jolley leads the Eagles offense with 104 kills (3.15 kills per set).
- Redshirt junior setter Isabella Murray leads the team in assists with 351 (9.75 assists per set).
- Winthrop also has six players with 60 or more digs on the year.
- The Eagles are led by second year head coach Heather Gearhart.
- Winthrop leads the all-time series between the two teams 31-10, despite PC defeating them 3-1 in November of last season.
 
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT – GARDNER-WEBB
- The Runnin' Bulldogs have tallied a 2-13 record so far this season, picking up their wins against Lamar and UNC Charlotte.
- The team has put up a .145 hitting percentage while averaging 10.6 kills per set.
- Redshirt sophomore outside hitter Cayton White leads the team in kills with 161 (3.10 kills per set).
- The team has two key setter, Redshirt sophomore Sloane Rooney (176 assists) and junior Rebecca Siedenburg (139 assists).
- Defensively, sophomore libero Molly Littlefield is atop the Runnin' Bulldogs leaderboard in digs with 243 (4.67 digs per set).
- Alex Hinsey is in his first season at the helm of the Runnin' Bulldogs volleyball program.
- The Blue Hose lead the all-time series between the two teams 23-12, although Gardner-Webb took the last match 3-1 in November of last season.
 
BIG SOUTH LEADERS
The Blue Hose volleyball team currently ranks second in the Big South Conference with an impressive 15.76 digs per set, having accumulated a total of 977 digs this season.
 
Individually, Anna Baranski stands out, ranking third in the conference with 7.40 assists per set. She also places sixth with an average of 3.11 digs per set. Courtney Williams has excelled with a .283 hitting percentage, tying her for fifth in the league, and she is ranked seventh with 0.85 blocks per set.
 
Hannah Rowe's serving strength shines, as she averages 0.41 service aces per set, placing her fourth in the conference, and she also ranks ninth with 2.75 digs per set. Brittney Daphnis contributes significantly on defense, ranking fourth with 0.96 blocks per set. Additionally, Celimar Hoyos holds eighth place in the conference with an average of 2.84 digs per set.
 
BLUE HOSE DOUBLE-DOUBLES
Presbyterian players have already recorded an impressive 17 double-doubles across their first 15 matches of the season. Junior setter Anna Baranski has been at the forefront, achieving double-doubles in 12 of those contests, including nine-straight matches with double-figure assists and digs. Senior outside hitter Hannah Rowe has also made a significant impact, tallying five double-doubles, including a standout performance against Southern Miss where she notched a career-high 19 kills along with 14 digs.
