Box Score CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College volleyball team (4-12, 0-3) was defeated in straight sets by the Winthrop Eagles (5-7, 2-0) in a competitive conference matchup on Friday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST SET
Despite the Blue Hose securing the first point of the match, Winthrop quickly responded with a 5-2 run, grabbing an early 5-3 lead.
Courtney Williams notched a kill for PC, but the Eagles answered with three consecutive kills to extend their advantage to 8-4.

Ashley Miller's first kill of the day sparked a 4-1 rally for the Blue Hose, highlighted by a block from Miller and
Elyse Hutchinson. Although another block from
Hannah Rowe and Hutchinson temporarily slowed Winthrop's momentum, the Eagles countered with a six-point surge, pushing their lead to 16-9.

A timely kill from Williams helped Presbyterian close the gap with two additional points, but Winthrop responded, maintaining control. Rowe delivered a kill, and a block from Williams trimmed the Eagles' lead to just four points. An exchange of points followed, with another Williams kill, before the score was pushed to 21-17 in Winthrop's favor.

The Blue Hose managed to grab two more points, thanks to another Miller kill, but Winthrop sealed the first set with a 25-18 victory.

SECOND SET
The second set began evenly as both teams raced to a 4-4 tie. However, Winthrop gained momentum with a five-point surge before Miller ended the run with a kill. Rowe followed up with a kill of her own, narrowing the Eagles' lead down to three points. Winthrop responded with a dominant stretch, taking eight of the next nine points to establish a comfortable 17-7 advantage.

The Blue Hose refused to back down, launching a 6-1 run fueled by kills from Williams and Miller, along with a block from Miller and Hutchinson. Miller continued to lead PC during an exchange of points, with her kill trimming the deficit to 20-15. Hutchinson chipped in with two late kills, while Miller added another, but Winthrop once again claimed the set, 25-18.

THIRD SET
After a Winthrop attack error, the Eagles quickly responded by jumping to a 4-1 lead. Miller momentarily halted their momentum with a kill, but Winthrop answered back with one of their own.
Ava Smith and Williams each added kills, followed by two from
Julia Yurkovich to even the score at six.

Winthrop pulled ahead by two, but a strong attack from Hutchinson brought PC back within one. Despite a kill from Miller and a service ace from Hutchinson, the Eagles took control, scoring five of the next seven points to extend their lead to 13-9.

Smith and Williams fought back with additional kills, trimming the deficit to three points, but Winthrop responded with a dominant 9-2 run, pushing the set to match point. Hutchinson added two late kills, and
Amaris Alvarez contributed a service ace, but the Eagles ultimately closed out the set, 25-17.
