HIGH POINT, N.C. – The Presbyterian College women's soccer team succumbed to a 2-0 decision at High Point on a frigid Wednesday night in North Carolina, tasting their first Big South Conference loss outright of 2024.
Able to manage a couple of ties in league play against USC Upstate and Winthrop, along with a two-score victory over Gardner-Webb, the Blue Hose couldn't produce enough convincing offensive sets versus HPU which contributed to the result.
PC had posted some of their best performances of the season when playing the visitors' role (victories over Wofford, Furman, and The Citadel come to mind), although they'd finish Wednesday's clash with just three shots overall.
Head coach
Matt Smith and co. will engage in their last road meeting of the regular season this weekend, traveling to Longwood on October 19 for a 2:00 PM beginning.
FINAL SCORE: High Point, 2 – Presbyterian, 0
RECORDS: Presbyterian (6-4-3, 1-1-2) – High Point (6-5-3, 3-1-1)
LOCATION: Vert Stadium (High Point, N.C.)
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Scotsmen were unsuccessful in bidding for a second straight win at Vert Stadium (having beaten the Panthers there in 2022), conceding a 30
th minute goal and another with 1:47 left in regulation.
-
Kelly Hall lassoed seven saves in the loss, five of which came while the score was nil-nil. PC's shots came from
Sloan Spees,
Emilia Lieber, and freshman
Allie Williams.
-
Lyla Chadd,
Ella Williams, and
Madison Hindman played the full 90 for Presbyterian's defense, a group that allowed only their fifth goal of the campaign within the final 30 minutes of the match (13 possibilities).
- With Wednesday's result, there stands only one Big South school without a loss against a conference mate (Charleston Southern, who has two W's and a draw). HPU moves into the top spot in the league standings by taking the win.
UP NEXT
- Just three matches are ahead for Presbyterian until postseason play, pinpointing Farmville, Virginia for their next encounter as they'll square up with Longwood.
- While the Lancers have only been able to muster three wins on the semester, they've witnessed two of them against Big South foes (Gardner-Webb and UNC Asheville).
- Longwood tangled with two-time defending conference champion Radford on Wednesday, concluding with a scoreless tie.
- ESPN+ will have coverage of the contest, as the Blue Hose search for their first-ever road win against the Lancers.
