CHARLOTTE, N.C. –
Jonah Pierce scored a game-high 22 points while grabbing nine rebounds but the Presbyterian Blue Hose (0-1) lost to the Charlotte 49ers (1-0), 88-79, in a tightly contested game on the road on Monday night.
Pierce was a perfect 11-for-11 from the field. With his last basket with six seconds on the clock, Pierce scored his 1,000
th point in his college career.
Kory Mincy scored 17 points.
Carl Parrish scored 12 points off the bench.
The Blue Hose finished the game with a 34-8 advantage in bench points.
HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST HALF – Jaylen Peterson scored the Blue Hose's first basket of the season with a tip-in at the 19:09 mark. Peterson started the Blue Hose on an 8-3 run which included threes from
Kobe Stewart and
Jamahri Harvey pushing the Blue Hose in front 8-5 just over two minutes into the game. With the game tied at 10 with 16:44 on the clock, Charlotte went on a 10-0 run over the next three minutes. Charlotte pushed their lead to 13 points, 25-12, at the 10:47 mark. Presbyterian went on a 7-0 scoring run with a dunk by Stewart, two free throws, and a three from Mincy cutting Charlotte's lead to 25-19 with 8:18 left in the half. The 49ers pushed their lead up to 10 points then with four straight points from Pierce and a three by Stewart got the Blue Hose within three, 34-31, at the 3:37 mark. Charlotte scored nine straight points taking a 43-31 lead with 58 ticks on the clock. Charlotte led Presbyterian, 45-33, at the half.
SECOND HALF – Charlotte maintained a double-figure lead for the first 10 minutes of the half. With 9:46 on the clock, Parrish connected on a three cutting Charlotte's lead to 65-58. Charlotte answered with a three. Two free throws from Mincy got the Blue Hose back within eight points, 68-60. Charlotte held a lead between 8-12 points for the next eight minutes. With 29 seconds on the clock, Parrish connected on a three cutting Charlotte's lead to 84-77, but the Blue Hose were not able to get any closer.

- Pierce tallied his tenth double-figure scoring game of his Presbyterian career with his 22 points.
- Mincy recorded his seventh career double-figure scoring game with 17 points.
- Parrish recorded his third career double-figure scoring game with 12 points.
- Pierce grabbed nine rebounds and Kaleb Scott grabbed seven rebounds as the Blue Hose finished the game with a 31-21 advantage on the boards.
