Blue Hose Fall Short in Season Opener at Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Despite a trio of Blue Hose players scoring double-figure points, the Presbyterian College women's basketball team (0-1) fell to the Charlotte 49ers (1-0) with a final score of 77-63 on Monday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Quarter – Paige Kindseth scored the Blue Hose their first points of the season before Shelby Fiddler showcased her range with a pair of three-point buckets to give PC an early lead. Laney Scoggins and Aminata Tal added to Presbyterian's tally, but Charlotte lead 25-18 at the end of the first quarter.

Second Quarter – Sonia Sato earned her first points of the year early in the second quarter before Kindseth cut PC's deficit to six points heading into the media timeout. Not long after the break we saw over two scoreless minutes with solid defense from both sides. The spell was broken after Tal drew a foul and nailed a pair of free throws. The 49ers stepped up towards the end of the first half as they went to the locker room with a 43-30 advantage.

Third Quarter – A slow start for the Blue Hose allowed Charlotte to extend their lead to 55-32. With just over two minutes remaining, Teresa Mbemba turned up the heat as she took five-straight points and Kishyah Anderson drew a foul to add two more points to the tally. Ellie Southards took Presby's final bucket of the third quarter, but the 49ers were able to hold onto a 58-41 lead heading into the final 10-minutes of play.

Fourth Quarter – Three PC players scored as the Blue Hose cut their deficit to 62-50 in the beginning of the fourth quarter. Anderson took Presbyterian's next four points before Daniella Velez knocked down a three. Free throws from Anderson and Mbemba brought the difference to 72-60, but Charlotte answered at the charity stripe. Fiddler added another three-pointer to her efforts, but the 49ers closed out the game with a final score of 77-63.
