Volleyball Returns to Templeton for Pair of Big South Contests

CLINTON, S.C. – After four-straight matches on the road, the Presbyterian College volleyball team returns to Clinton for a pair of home games against the Radford Highlanders and the High Point Panthers.
 
LAST TIME OUT
Last weekend the Blue Hose defeated USC Upstate before falling to UNC Asheville the next day. Anna Baranski recorded the team's first triple-double of the season in the win over Upstate before notching another the next day. Courtney Williams added a career-high of 20 kills against the Spartans while Aliza Hart saw a career-best with 30 assists. Celimar Hoyos added to the fun with 28 digs which is the most she has posted this year.

A LOOK AT THE BLUE HOSE
- The Blue Hose currently hold a 7-17 record, securing their wins in hard-fought five-set matches against Delaware State, Temple, Southern Miss, and USC Upstate along with straight-set victories over SC State and Gardner-Webb (x2).
- The team has averaged a .169 hitting percentage while taking 10.9 kills per set. They've also shown strength at the net, amassing 168 total blocks (1.8 blocks per set).
- Courtney Williams leads the team offensively with 232 kills (2.49 kills per set). Julia Yurkovich is not far behind with 201 kills of her own at 2.42 kills per set.
- Junior setter Anna Baranski has been instrumental, totaling 693 assists (7.45 per set) while also being one of the teams dig leaders with 299 (3.22 per set).
- Defensively, sophomore outside hitter Courtney Williams anchors the Blue Hose at the net with 74 total blocks, 17 of which are solo efforts. Elyse Hutchinson and Brittney Daphnis are close behind, both adding 64 blocks, including seven solo blocks.
 
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT – RADFORD
- The Highlanders totaled a 5-6 Big South Conference record with wins over Charleston Southern, Presbyterian, USC Upstate, and Gardner-Webb (x2).
- The team has averaged 12.5 kills per set, at a .205 hitting percentage.
- Senior middle blocker Sophie Paspal leads the team with 219 kills (2.64 kills per set) while also being a force at the next with a team leading 89 total blocks.
- Senior setter Julia Slivka is the team's go-to passer with 441 assists (5.73 assists per set).
- Radford leads the all-time series between the two teams 18-14. The last time these teams faced off was earlier this season when the Highlanders walked away with a straight-set victory.
- Savanna Hammond is in her first season as the head coach of the Highlanders.
 
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT – HIGH POINT
- The Panthers have not lost a conference match so far this season, tailing an 11-0 record with at least one win over each team in the league.
- The team has put up a .251 hitting percentage while averaging 13.5 kills per set.
- Graduate student outside hitter Dylan Maberry leads the team with 368 kills (4.09 kills per set).
- Senior setter Allie Gray leads the Panthers with 553 assists (7.09 assists per set) while redshirt sophomore setter Hannah Hawkins is close behind with 385 (5.58 assists per set).
- On the defensive end, junior defensive specialist Jordyn Schilling had totaled 443 digs (4.92 digs per set).
- Senior middle blocker Arica Davis leads the Panthers with 117 total blocks.
- Head coach Ryan Meek is in his seventh season at the helm of the Panthers program.
- High Point leads the all-time series between the two teams 27-4 after sweeping PC earlier this season.
 
BIG SOUTH LEADERS
Individually, Baranski ranks third in the conference with 7.45 assists per set. She also places eighth with an average of 3.22 digs per set. Courtney Williams is ranked eighth in the league with a .262 hitting percentage, ninith for her 2.49 kills per set, and also placing tied for eighth with 0.80 blocks per set.
 
Brittney Daphnis contributes significantly on defense, ranking sixth in the Big South with 0.83 blocks per set. Additionally, Celimar Hoyos holds seventh place in the conference with an average of 3.64 digs per set.
 
BLUE HOSE DOUBLE-DOUBLES
Presbyterian players have already recorded an impressive 23 double-doubles this year. Junior setter Anna Baranski has been at the forefront, achieving double-doubles in 18 of those contests, including a nine-match streak with double-figure assists and digs earlier in the season. Most recently, Baranski took a pair of triple-doubles against USC Upstate and UNC Asheville.
 
Senior outside hitter Hannah Rowe has also made a significant impact, tallying five double-doubles, including a standout performance against Southern Miss where she notched a career-high 19 kills along with 14 digs.
 
BIG SOUTH WEEKLY AWARDS
Ashley Miller earned the title of Big South Player of the Week on Oct. 28 after her performance against Gardner-Webb and Winthrop. Playing a full rotation as an outside hitter, Miller delivered a remarkable weekend performance. She tallied 26 kills, averaging 4.33 kills per set, and set a new career-high with 18 kills in the team's sweep over Gardner-Webb. The sophomore also contributed nine digs, three blocks, and a service ace, showcasing her versatility and impact on both offense and defense.
 
Celimar Hoyos earned the title of Big South Libero of the Week on Oct. 28 after her performance against Gardner-Webb and Winthrop. Hoyos showcased her defensive prowess with an impressive 36 digs (6.00 digs per set) over six sets last weekend. She also contributed nine assists and a service ace, reinforcing her all-around impact and helping drive the team's performance on both ends of the court.
