Presbyterian Comes Up Short Against NC State

RALEIGH, N.C.  – Kory Mincy and Kobe Stewart collected 20 points scoring games but the Presbyterian Blue Hose (1-2) came up short in an 81-72 loss to 2024 Final Four participant NC State (2-0) on the road on Friday evening.
 
Mincy scored a career-high 28 points. Stewart scored 20 points. Jonah Pierce scored eight points and grabbed a game-high ten rebounds.  
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST HALF – Presbyterian's Kaleb Scott, a Raleigh, North Carolina native, scored PC's first basket with a layup at the 19:21 mark. NC State scored 11 of the first 15 points taking a 11-4 lead three minutes into the game. A jumper from Stewart and a three-point play from Mincy got the Blue Hose back within two, 11-9, with 15 on the clock. The Wolfpack pushed their lead up to eight points, 17-9, a minute later. Stewart scored seven unanswered points getting the Blue Hose to within one, 17-16, at the 12:28 mark. With 10 minutes on the clock, the Blue Hose trailed 19-18, then, NC State scored 15 of the next 17 points taking a 34-20 lead with 4:21 left in the half. With NC State leading 38-26 with 2:15 on the clock, the Blue Hose behind five points from Mincy cut NC State's lead to 38-31 at the half.
 
SECOND HALF – Stewart scored on a fast break layup 18 seconds into the half cutting NC State's lead to 38-33. NC State scored four straight points and then a three from Mincy got the Blue Hose back within six points, 42-36, with 17:52 on the clock. The Wolfpack went on a 7-0 run pushing their lead to 13 points, 49-36. With 13:37 on the clock, Mincy connected on a three cutting NC State's lead to 52-45. However, that would be as close as Presbyterian would get the rest of the way.  
 
 
NOTES
  • Mincy collected his first career 20-point scoring game and his ninth double-digit scoring game of his career with his 28 points. Mincy went 4-for-6 from beyond the three-point arc.
  • Stewart recorded his second double-figure scoring game of the season and the 23rd of his career with his 20 points.
  • Presbyterian finished the game with 42 points in the paint.
