CLINTON, S.C. – Winning six matches in a row to turn an early deficit into a full-on route, the sixth-ranked Presbyterian College women's wrestling team extended its home winning streak to a full three years by downing upset-minded Mount Olive 35-12 on Tuesday night.
The Blue Hose handed the Trojans their first loss of the season after entering Templeton Gymnasium with a 3-0 mark, grabbing three technical's and two straight pins to end with a 23-point margin of victory.
Chloe Dearwester (110) and
Cassia Zammit (131) kept their perfect individual records intact versus UMO, while 138-pound freshman
Carina Giangeruso moved to 10-1 on a 12-2 tech that was finished off in less than one full period.
Snatching the W in both of their duals thus far, the Scotsmen will stay in Clinton for a major early-season showdown against third-ranked King next week. The action will start at 6:00 PM on December 10 as two top-ten rivals square off.
NOTABLES
- Dearwester was the catalyst to a 25-2 run that left the Trojans eating the dust, drilling Ria Wright with a 15-0 TF in fewer than 90 seconds.
- The rookie from Cincinnati has now won each of her first eight collegiate matches, with all of them decided by either pin or technical.
- A 5-0 decision in favor of
Charlee Shuler and another 15-0 tech – this one from
Alyssa Mahan – pushed the team score to 11-5. A couple of forfeits and Giangeruso's triumph boosted the advantage to a near-insurmountable level at 18 points.
-
Lexi Fornshell and
Ella Beam delivered back-to-back pins in 90 and 57 seconds respectively to slam the door on Mount Olive. In both of Presby's duals against UMO (referencing the other in December '22), the Blue Hose surpassed the 30-point threshold.
- Across PC's two dual wins over UMO and Campbellsville last month, they have acquired five technical falls and four pins. This compliments two dominating performances in a tournament setting, where they've hoisted 12 gold medals and eight other silver prizes.
