Presbyterian Falls to UNC Asheville on the Road

ASHEVILLE, N.C.  – The Presbyterian Blue Hose (12-15, Big South: 4-8) lost to the UNC Asheville Bulldogs (18-9, Big South: 10-2), 71-69, on the road on Wednesday evening.
 
Marquis Barnett led all scorers with 20 points while grabbing eight rebounds. Kaleb Scott scored 14 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Kobe Stewart scored 11 points while connecting on three three-point field goals. Samage Teel rounded out the Blue Hose double-figure scorers with 10 points.

HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST HALF – Presbyterian started the game on a 10-0 scoring run behind baskets from Scott, Kobe Stewart, and Kory Mincy. After a three from Stewart, the Blue Hose had pushed their lead to 15-4 with 15:16 on the clock. After another three from Stewart, Presbyterian had increased their lead to 20-6 with 13:57 on the clock. UNC Asheville cut Presbyterian's lead to 10 points with 12:38 on the clock. After a three from Trevon Reddish-Rhone from the top of the key, PC led UNC Asheville, 28-12 with 9:51 left in the half. Presbyterian after a free throw from Jonah Pierce led 43-23 with 2:33 on the clock. With 1:39 left on the clock, Barnett knocked down a three from the wing giving Presbyterian a 46-26 lead. With 40 seconds in the half, UNC Asheville connected on a three for the final points of the half. Presbyterian after connecting on 10 threes led 46-29 at halftime.
 

SECOND HALF 
– Mincy started the second half scoring off with two free throws pushing PC's lead to 19 points. Then, UNC Asheville went on a 20-6 run over the next six minutes cutting Presbyterian's lead to 54-49 with 12:48 on the clock. Barnett scored inside increasing the Blue Hose lead to seven points, 56-49. The Blue Hose maintained the lead until UNC Asheville's Trent Stephney knocked down a three from the corner giving the Bulldogs a 65-63 lead with 5:50 on the clock. Barnett tied the score with two free throws. Then, UNC Asheville jumped back in front and Barnett tied the score at 67 with a layup with 3:47 on the clock. UNC Asheville's Josh Banks, who scored 16 points, made two free throws giving the Bulldogs the lead for good. The Blue Hose had a few chances to tie the score or take the lead in the final minutes but were not able to convert.
 
NOTES
  • Barnett's 20 points marked his seventh 20-point scoring game of the season and the 40th double-digit scoring game of his career
  • With 14 points, Scott posted his eighth double-figure scoring game of the season.
  • Teel's 10 points marked his 20th double-figure scoring game of the season.
  • Stewart's 11 points marked his ninth double-figure scoring game of the season and the 18th of his career. 
  • For the fourth time this season, Presbyterian connected on double-figure threes with 10.
