Blue Hose Drop Home Game to Lancers

CLINTON, S.C.  – The Presbyterian Blue Hose (12-16, Big South: 4-9) lost to the Longwood Lancers (16-11, Big South: 4-8), 81-73, at the Templeton Center on Saturday afternoon.
 
Marquis Barnett led the Blue Hose with 22 points while dishing out five assists with three steals. Kobe Stewart scored 12 points. Samage Teel tallied 10 points off the bench. Trevon Reddish-Rhone scored nine points and grabbed seven rebounds.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST HALF – Behind baskets from Stewart and Barnett the Blue Hose scored the game's first four points. Longwood scored 10 unanswered points to take a 10-4 lead five and a half minutes into the game. The Blue Hose scored 11 of the next 16 points tying the score at 15 after a three-point play from Stewart with 12:17 on the clock. Longwood scored to regain the lead. Then, Barnett knocked down a three from the wing pushing the Blue Hose back in front with 11:16 on the clock. The score would be tied three times over the final 10 minutes of the half. With the score tied at 29 with under two minutes left in the half, the Lancers scored the final four points of the half taking a 33-29 halftime lead.
 

SECOND HALF 
– The Blue Hose began the half scoring nine of the first 12 points taking a 38-36 lead after Reddish-Rhone completed a three-point play at the 17:51 mark. Barnett also scored during the run. Longwood tied the score at 38. PC forged back in front after two free throws from Barnett. Longwood took back the lead, 41-40, after Walyn Napper, who scored 26 points in the game, scored inside the paint at 16:04 on the clock. Barnett scored four straight points pushing the Blue Hose back in front, 44-41. Longwood scored eight straight points regaining the lead for good, 49-44, with 13:41 on the clock. With 5:29 on the clock, the Lancers had a 69-54 lead. Then, the Blue Hose behind baskets from Barnett and Teel went on an 8-0 scoring run cutting Longwood's lead to 69-62 with 3:41 left in the half. However that would be as close as the Blue Hose would get to Longwood the rest of the game.
 
NOTES
  • With 22 points, Barnett has now had eight 20-point scoring games this season. This also marked his 41st career double-digit scoring game.
  • Stewart's 12 points marked his tenth double-figure scoring game of the season and the 19th of his career.
  • Teel's 10 points was his 21st double-figure scoring game of the season
  • Presbyterian scored 36 points in the paint.
