ROCK HILL, S.C. – Behind a strong second half performance and four double-figure scorers, the Presbyterian Blue Hose (13-16, Big South: 5-9) defeated the Winthrop Eagles (16-12, Big South: 7-6), 78-55, on the road on Wednesday evening.
The win marked Presbyterian's first win at Winthrop since February 14, 2012.
Samage Teel led all scorers with 22 points. He also dished five assists.
Marquis Barnett tallied 19 points and seven rebounds.
Kaleb Scott rounded out Presbyterian's double-figure scorers with 13 points to go along with eight rebounds.
Trevon Reddish-Rhone scored 11 points and grabbed six rebounds.
Carl Parrish scored five points off the bench for the Blue Hose.
HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST HALF – Winthrop scored the game's first four points. Scott, who scored nine points in the half, scored PC's first basket with a jumper in the lane at the 18:19 mark. With Winthrop leading 8-4, after a basket from Teel and a three from Barnett, the Blue Hose cut the Eagles lead to one, 10-9, with 15;51 on the clock. Winthrop after leading 15-14, outscored the Blue Hose 13-5 over the next six minutes taking a 28-19 lead with 6:58 on the clock. Parrish started an 11-0 scoring run by the Blue Hose with a layup with 6:52 on the clock.
Kobe Stewart, Barnett, who scored 11 points in the half, Reddish-Rhone, and Scott scored during the run. Winthrop regained the lead 35-34 with 1:21 on the clock, PC finished the half by scoring nine of the final 10 points taking a 43-36 halftime lead after a three from Teel, who scored eight points in the half, at the buzzer.
SECOND HALF – The Blue Hose scored the first six points of the half behind baskets from Scott, Reddish-Rhone, and Barnett to push their lead to 49-36 with 17:55 on the clock. Winthrop scored four straight points cutting the Blue Hose lead to nine points, 49-40, with 15:30 left in the game. The Blue Hose scored four straight points behind baskets from Teel and Stewart. Winthrop scored four straight points again getting within nine points but that would be as close as they would get to PC the rest of the way. After a three from Teel at the 3:45 mark, the Blue Hose led 74-53. The Blue Hose final margin of victory was 23 points, 78-55.

- Presbyterian limited Winthrop to 19 points and 27.6 percent shooting (8-for-29) from the field in the second half.
- Presbyterian, who leads the Big South in field goal percentage, shot 52.5 percent from the field for the game and 57.7 percent from the field in the second half.
- Presbyterian's 50 points in the paint marked the sixth game this season that they have scored at least 50 points in the paint.
- Teel's 22 points marked his fourth 20-point scoring game and his 22nd double-figure scoring game of the season.
- Barnett's 19-point performance was his 23rd double-digit scoring game of the season and the 42nd of his career.
- With 13 points, Scott tallied his eighth double-figure scoring game of the season.
- Reddish-Rhone scored 11 points giving him nine double-figure scoring games this season and 39 in his career.
