PC Splits the Weekend with Matches Against Wofford & Tennessee State

CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College Blue Hose women's tennis team (5-4) splits the weekend with a road match against the Wofford Terriers (4-2) on Saturday, Feb. 17 at 10:00 a.m. followed by a home match against the Tennessee State Tigers (0-7) the following day at noon.

SCOUTING THE TERRIERS
- Over Wofford's first six matches they have totaled a 4-2 record with wins over Bethune-Cookman, Stetson, Converse, and Emanuel.
- Junior Breda Brennan leads the team with a 5-1 singles record, playing at the No. 1 spot.
- Freshman Grace Agster and junior Lilly Woods lead the team with a 4-1 doubles record playing at the No. 1 slot.
- Saturday marks the 15th time that these two teams will meet since Presbyterian joined the Division I rank in 2008. Presbyterian hasn't seen a victory over the Terriers since the 2014 spring season where they won 4-3. The last time that these teams faced off was last season where Wofford swept 7-0. The Terriers lead the all-time series between the two teams 12-2.
 
SCOUTING THE TIGERS
- Tennessee State looks to take their first win against the Blue Hose having yet to find a win over their first seven matches this season.
- Sophomore Warona Mdlulwa leads the team with a 1-3 singles record competing at the No. 1 and No. 2 spots.
- Mdlulwa teamed up with graduate student Perri Howard to achieve a 2-1 doubles record playing at the No. 1 position.
- Sunday will mark the first time that these two teams will play a match since Presbyterian joined Division I in 2008.
 
A LOOK AT THE BLUE HOSE
- After being picked third in the conference's preseason poll, which is the highest in the program's history, Presbyterian currently has a 5-4 record with wins over Queens, Lander, Belmont Abbey (x2), and North Greenville.
- Junior Claudia Sanchez leads the Blue Hose with a 7-2 singles record with four wins at the No. 2 spot and three wins at the No.3 position.
- Sanchez teamed up with junior Valentina De Sousa in doubles to earn a 4-2 record, winning two matches at the No. 2 slot and two wins at the No. 3 spot. Sanchez has more recently teamed up with senior Lucianna Piedra to go 2-0 at the No. 2 position.
 
BIG SOUTH WEEKLY AWARDS
On February 7 junior Claudia Sanchez was named Big South Player of the Week after her performance throughout the week of Jan. 29-Feb. 4. The Betera, Valencia, Spain native went 3-0 in all singles matches played last week. She won 6-1, 6-2 at the number three spot in singles against Lander, and then 7-5, 2-6, 6-2 at the number three flight over Coastal Carolina. Sanchez concluded her week with a 7-5, 6-2 straight set victory over UNC Wilmington in the number two spot.
 
SPRING SLATE
Head coach Joel Roberts 2024 spring slate features 21 matches including 16 outside of the conference beginning with this weekend's matches in Charlotte. PC will play 11 matches at the Templeton tennis courts here at Presbyterian College this spring. In conference play, PC hosts Longwood, Gardner-Webb, and Charleston Southern.
