Blue Hose Earn Road Win Behind a 20 Piece from Sjökvist

FARMVILLE, VA – The Presbyterian College Blue Hose women's basketball team (15-13, BSC: 6-7) took a 67-52 victory over the Longwood Lancers (6-19, BSC: 3-9) behind 14 points off the bench and 30 points in the paint.

COACH SHARP'S THOUGHTS
"Great road win for our team today. I was really proud of our bench for stepping up and giving us 14 points. Tilda was really aggressive today and our team followed her lead. Defensively we have really made some strides over the last few games. We played with a resilient spirit today and that's what it takes you to win on the road."

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Quarter – After an even start, Longwood jumped ahead by six points with a score of 12-6. PC fought back to make it a two-point deficit before the media timeout behind two-point baskets from Tilda Sjökvist, Núria Cunill, and Sonia Sato. The Blue Hose were able to tie up the game at 14 points apiece before Cunill gave PC a 17-16 lead with a layup to end the quarter.

Second Quarter – The Lancers tied the score once again less than a minute into the second quarter before Presby went on their first big run of the day. The Blue Hose tallied nine unanswered points behind four different PC players to make the score 27-18. Longwood was able to take four of those points back before Sjokvist made a layup to make the score 29-22. Both teams scored two more points before the Lancers ended the first half with a three-point bucket, but PC held a 31-27 lead at the half.

Third Quarter – Paige Kindseth scored the first basket of the second half with a three pointer, but Longwood answered with three-points of their own. Presbyterian scored seven of the next nine points behind a three-point shot from Sjokvist to send the quarter to the media timeout with PC ahead 41-34. Longwood hit a three-point shot coming out of the timeout, but again the Blue Hose rallied to earn eight of the next 11 points with three pointers made by Christina Kline and Mara Neira. Longwood took two more points before the end of the third quarter with a score of 51-42 in PC's favor.

Fourth Quarter – Kline hit a three pointer to open the final quarter of play before Longwood made a layup to make it a 10-point game with a score of 54-44. The Blue Hose went on to score the next nine points behind five points from Sjokvist to give PC their biggest lead of the day with a score of 63-44. The Lancer cut the score to 13 points, but Neira took a fast break layup to make the score 65-50. After some back and forth PC held onto their 15-point lead to secure the win with a score of 67-52.
