CHARLOTTE, N.C. – In a clash between two Carolina schools that currently hold the exact same record, the Presbyterian College softball team will hit the road for the first time in 2024 for a Wednesday doubleheader versus Queens. Game one will see its first pitch at 1:00 PM as the Blue Hose prepare for a six-game week ahead.
Not only do both PC and the Royals have the same resume at this stage (4-5), but both clubs are coming off of dominant performances in their last appearance: a 9-1 win from Presby over Morehead State on Sunday and an 8-0 mercy rule shutout for Queens over Canisius just 24 hours ago.
Wednesday will simultaneously be the first time that PC are the visitors and the second instance of Queens being the hosting party, carrying on a three-game series between the two from 2023 where the Blue Hose won a pair.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
- Under the guidance of first-year head coach Kella Goins (just three years removed from a terrific playing career at D-II institution Lincoln Memorial and taking over the program's reigns in the middle of last spring), Queens found a season-high eight runs in the aforementioned blowout over Canisius.
- Scoring in four of the six innings to end the contest prematurely, the Royals avenged a 7-2 loss to the Golden Griffins that occurred the day prior while also shelving a three-game losing skid in the process.
- Queens looked particularly promising in the campaign's opening weekend, winning three out of five matchups over three different opponents. In that stretch, they limited Northern Kentucky, North Dakota State, and DePaul to just one combined run at a tournament hosted by UNC Wilmington.
LAST TIME OUT
- Head Coach
David Williams and co. cruised to a 9-1 beatdown over Morehead State at the close of the Pinnacle Invitational, acquiring a six-score 3
rd inning that led to their third mercy-rule victory of the semester already.
- Sophomore catcher
Molly Mattas effectively put the game out of reach with a three-run homer – her first in a PC uniform after transferring from Newberry – giving the Blue Hose four dingers from four different players to this point.
- Presbyterian has now achieved 21 wins on their home turf since the start of last season, batting .325 as a unit through the first nine games of Williams' sixth season in Clinton (the highest number of any squad in the Big South).
- Underclassmen
Gracie DeCuir and
Kasey Wolfe hold the highest averages on the roster currently (.500 and .481 in 49 combined at-bats), while six separate players have logged at least four RBI.
- Altogether, the Blue Hose have outscored the opposition by 13 runs (49-36), connecting on 80 hits and walking 26 times.
