Canisius Holds off PC in Hard Fought Battle

CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College Blue Hose baseball team (4-2) fell to the Canisius Golden Griffins (1-1) on Friday night after a nine-inning battle.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Blue Hose started off strong with a single to left field by Noah Lebron. Brody Fahr took one for the team after being hit by a pitch moving runners to first and second. Joel Dragoo flew out to right field, but allowed runners to advance to second and third. A passed ball gave PC their first run on the board and put a runner on third. Ryan Ouzts hit an RBI single to left field to give PC two runs in the first inning.
- In the top of the second, Canisius hit an RBI double to right center field to give the Golden Griffins their first score.
- Canisius took their first lead in the top of the third inning after scoring two more runs to make it a 3-2 game.
- PC answered with one run of their own in the bottom of the third, led by a double by Aaron Hobson. Dragoo reached first on an error which sent Hobson in to tie up the game at a score of 3-3.
- After two full scoreless innings, we saw the Golden Griffins take the next four runs with one in the sixth and a three-run homer in the seventh.
- The Blue Hose were able to cut Canisius' lead down to two in the bottom of the seventh inning. Hobson singled up the middle before Dragoo singled down the right field line. With runners on first and third, Ouzts hit an RBI single up the middle. Not long after, Jack Gorman hit an RBI single to left field to make the score 7-5 with Canisius holding a two-point lead going into the ninth inning.
- Canisius was able to put one more up on the board in the top of the ninth before their last offensive series.
- Dragoo started off the bottom of the ninth with a double down the left field line. A few batters later Ryan Becker hit a single to the pitcher to bring Dragoo in for a run, but ultimately the Golden Griffins ended the game with an 8-6 victory.
 
NOTABLES
- Freshman Aaron Hobson recorded his first collegiate hit today with a double to left center field. He put up three runs and two hits on the night.
- Daniel Eagen threw 11 strikeouts during his 4.2 innings pitched.
- Four PC players tallied two hits.
 
UP NEXT
The Blue Hose continue their weekend at home with a game on Saturday, February 24 against Saint Joseph's with a first pitch at 2:00 p.m.
