CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College Blue Hose women's tennis team (8-8) took down the Longwood Lancers (4-8) in the teams first conference match of the spring season while honoring senior
Lucianna Piedra for Senior Day.
DOUBLES
Presbyterian swept the doubles matches to quickly earn the first point of the day. At the No. 1 position,
McKenzie Davis and
Mathilde Delaney took down Longwood's Phoebe Mitchell and Karina Rizvanova with a score of 6-0. PC's
Lucianna Piedra and
Madison Dennett beat the Lancer's Oriana Izarra and F. Van Eijkelenburg securing the doubles point with a 6-3 victory at the No. 2 slot.
Claudia Sanchez and
Valentina De Sousa finished the sweep with a 7-6 (7-2) win at the No. 3 spot over Longwood's Sophia Marchetta and Nina Hederich.
SINGLES
The Blue Hose split the singles matches with three wins at the No. 2, 3, and 6 spots. Delaney gave PC a 2-0 lead with her 6-1, 6-3 win over Longwood's Mitchell at the No. 3 spot before Dennett pushed PC's lead to a score of 3-0 with her 6-0, 6-2 win at the No. 6 spot over LU's Kashmira Manohar. Sanchez secured the teams victory after she beat the Lancer's Oriana Izarra with a score of 6-2, 6-1 at the No. 2 position. Longwood was able to pick up the last three points at the No. 1, 4, and 5 spots, but it wasn't enough to stop the Blue Hose from securing a 4-3 victory.
