FARMVILLE, Va. – A very intriguing Big South Conference set awaits the Presbyterian College softball crew on Friday and Saturday, visiting a divisional opponent for the first time in 2024 as they take on Longwood for three bouts. Game 1 on Good Friday is plotted for 5:00 PM, finishing out the series on March 30 with a 1:00 doubleheader.
Both combatants earned a series W in their only other Big South sequence two weeks ago, with the Blue Hose utilizing an 8
th-inning walk-off in the finale to defeat Winthrop in Clinton while the Lancers scooped up consecutive wins at Gardner-Webb.
Presbyterian – while a bit shaky throughout the non-conference palate – started off conference action on the right foot, hoping to stay near the top half of the league standings if at least two victories are acquired.
Head coach
David Williams' roster will aim for some revenge against Longwood after dropping two last spring, a planned three-game series that was forced to shelve the last duel due to inclement weather.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
- A peculiar team to analyze at this point on the docket, Longwood brings a 9-19 record into this weekend's series although holding a strength-of-schedule that may be unmatched among mid-major programs.
- In the first month-and-a-half of the campaign, the Lancers have battled the likes of Alabama, Villanova, Georgia Tech, Tennessee, Virginia, Clemson, and Virginia Tech. Head coach Megan Brown's club has taken part in seven games versus nationally-ranked opponents.
- The Hokies were the latest in that bunch to tangle with the Lancers nearly 10 days ago, pulling out a hard-fought sweep by respective scores of 8-4 and 8-5 in a DH where Longwood played the hosting role.
- Longwood is just three games under .500 in their 21 outings against non-ranked schools, quickly shaking off a 10-0 shellacking at the hands of Gardner-Webb in their Big South opener to blank the Runnin' Bulldogs 4-0 twice thereafter.
- Maggie Chapin was the starting pitcher for both of those shutouts over G-W, holding them to five combined hits in those 14 innings. The sophomore has spent the second-longest time in the circle among all in the Big South, throwing 100 frames at present day.
LAST TIME OUT
- PC managed a split in the midst of frequent rain during Tuesday's twinbill against Mercer, eking out a 2-1 slugfest in the opener before dropping a 7-0 decision in the nightcap.
- Junior first baseman / designated player
Kendall Owens (who transferred from the Bears' program following her debut year) was responsible for both of Presby's scores in the first contest, ultimately seeing an eight-game streak with at least one RBI come to an end during Game 2.
-
Jenna Greene was given the W in the final box after a solid four innings by starter
Peyton Duncan, entering the field with a tie and holding Mercer to just two hits in 11 at-bats. PC's all-time strikeout leader amassed her 55
th career victory in the team's third win this semester by a single run.
- Currently in possession of the best BA on the roster (.310), freshman
Kasey Wolfe turned in an efficient 5.2 innings of relief in the rematch, not allowing a single earned run next to five K's.
