20-Runs and Three Homers Propel Victory Against Winthrop

CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College Blue Hose baseball team (17-17, BSC: 8-2) took down the Winthrop Eagles (13-18-1, BSC: 4-6) after putting up a season-high of 20-runs behind three home runs from three different Blue Hose players.

COACH POLLOCK'S THOUGHTS
"Daniel Eagen continues to show why he is one of the best pitching prospects in the country. He led us on the mound today. I am equally proud of our offense, who produced quality at bats today against a very good arm."

HOW IT HAPPENED
- After a scoreless first inning, the Blue Hose took the lead in the bottom of the second. Jake Randolph began the inning with a walk, then advanced to second on a wild pitch. His steal of third base pressured the catcher into a difficult throw down the third base line. An error on the throw allowed Randolph to dash home, scoring the team's first run of the day.
- Winthrop answered in the top of the third inning to tie the score at one run apiece.
- In the bottom of the third inning, Jay Wetherington was hit by a pitch and took first base. He advanced to second after a ground out by the next batter, and then Joel Dragoo drew a walk, with Wetherington stealing third base in the process. Dragoo stole second base before Noah Lebron hit a two-RBI single through the right side. Shortly after, Jack Gorman blasted a deep home run over the left-center field wall, extending the score to 5-1.
- In the bottom of the fourth inning, Eli Lazio kickstarted the offense with a single to left field. Wetherington then moved him to second with a well-executed sacrifice bunt. Taking advantage of a passed ball, Lazio hustled to third base. Brody Fahr's patient at-bat resulted in a walk, setting the stage for Dragoo's RBI single up the middle, bringing in the team's sixth run of the night. Dragoo stole second base before Lebron drew a walk to load the bases for Presbyterian. Although Gorman grounded out to second base, he secured another RBI by driving Fahr home. A passed ball allowed Lebron to advance to third and Dragoo to sprint home for another run. Lebron then capitalized on a wild pitch before Randolph delivered a powerful hit over the scoreboard, expanding the score to 10-1
- The Blue Hose exploded in the bottom of the fifth inning, notching a season-high eight runs in a single frame. Adam Featherstone started the onslaught with a walk as the leadoff batter, followed by Lazio being hit by a pitch, placing runners on first and second base. Wetherington then connected with a single to load the bases for PC. A wild pitch from the opponents allowed players to advance bases. Fahr, as the next batter, hammered a two-RBI double to left field, pushing the score to 13-1. A sacrifice fly from Dragoo advanced Fahr to third base. Lebron drew a walk and then advanced to second base on a passed ball. Gorman followed up with an RBI double to left field, extending the score to 14-1. Randolph drew a walk, setting the stage for Featherstone's double down the left field line, bringing three runners home and catapulting the Blue Hose's lead to 17-1. Lazio closed out the explosive inning with a double, sending Featherstone across home plate for the team's 18th run of the night.
- In the bottom of the seventh inning, Ryan Becker smashed a homer over the left field wall, marking the team's third home run of the night.
- The Eagles took two more runs in the top of the eighth inning, but Presbyterian held a 19-3 lead heading into the bottom of the eighth.
- The Blue Hose took one last run in the bottom of the eighth inning to secure a 20-run victory for the first time since 2022.
