Becker Cranks Grand Slam; PC Unable to Secure Victory

HIGH POINT, N.C. – The Presbyterian College Blue Hose baseball team (21-19, BSC: 10-5) lost to the High Point Panthers (22-18, BSC: 11-4) despite a grand slam from Ryan Becker in the eighth inning.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Jay Wetherington reached first base as the leadoff batter before Brody Fahr drew a walk to put runners on first and second. Wetherington was then able to take third base on a fly out from the next batter. Noah Lebron grounded out to the shortstop but not without giving Wetherington time to sprint home to give the Blue Hose a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning.
- HPU took seven runs over the next two innings of play.
- In the top of the fifth inning, Wetherington reached on a fielder's choice before stealing second base. An RBI single to right field from Fahr gave Wetherington his second run of the day and made the score 7-2.
- A trio of runs from High Point gave them a 10-2 lead after six innings.
- With no runs scored from either side in the seventh inning, Becker stepped up to bat with the bases loaded in the top of the eighth inning. He roped one over the left center field wall for a grand slam, cutting the High Point lead to four runs.
- PC was unable to pick up any runs in the top of the ninth, allowing High Point to take game three with a score of 10-6.
 
NOTABLES
- Ryan Becker's grand slam in the eighth inning marked his second home run of the season.
