RADFORD, Va. – The 2024 regular season slate is nearing its end for the Presbyterian College softball squad, putting on the finishing touches over the next two days against the Radford Highlanders in Big South Conference action.
Having completed 48 games to this point and with three to go, the Blue Hose will visit the state of Virginia for their sixth league series of the spring. This is the last stop on PC's season-ending eight-game road streak.
With only four teams allowed a ticket to the conference tournament, both combatants have been taken out of the running for the postseason, harboring 4-11 and 5-10 divisional marks.
Each of the last two series where the Scotsmen have battled the Highlanders, head coach
David Williams' unit came out ahead, two-games-to-one. Both of Presby's victories over Radford in 2023 came with high drama, each by a single run including a nine-inning barnburner during the opener.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT
- While the Highlanders have been unsuccessful in all five of their previous Big South series – winning one but dropping two against each school thus far – they found a momentum-booster in their last appearance, a doubleheader sweep over ETSU by an added margin of 8-2.
- That improved Radford to 11-6 when competing on their home turf, while also kickstarting a 10-day break that will end versus the Blue Hose.
- Head coach Alisa Tasler's group has achieved at least six runs in four of their five Big South victories, picking up an early-March triumph over Big Ten member Purdue at a neutral site in West Virginia (6-5).
- Sophomore outfielder Lexie Roberts has been eviscerating the ball as an underclassman, recording the best batting average of anyone in the division (.407) thanks to 57 hits and a .424 OBP.
LAST TIME OUT
- Despite a tally of four extra-base swings during Sunday's finale at Gardner-Webb and a three-run 2
nd frame, PC was unable to salvage Game 3 in Boiling Springs and was ultimately swept by the Runnin' Bulldogs last weekend.
- Of the 14 overall wins that Presby has accomplished over Radford in a series that dates back to 2009, six of them have occurred with Williams at the helm. Curiously, the Blue Hose haven't visited the Highlanders since 2021, where they published an 11-7 shootout W in the opener.
- PC's two victories in this series last spring were arguably the most exciting finishes of the decade to this point. Then-seniors
Rebecca Clark and
Layna Johnson delivered a walk-off homer in Game 1 and a 6
th-inning grand slam in the second bout respectively, clinching the series in Game 2 after falling behind 7-1.
- This will be the final Big South set for
Kaitlyn Tucker,
Jenna Greene,
Jillian Hewes,
Bailey Watkins, and
Kara Starnes, a group that has been a part of 106 victories over their lucrative tenure in Clinton.
