Blue Hose Fly Past Flying Fleet In Season Opener

CLINTON, S.C. – Eight different players scored goals as the Presbyterian Blue Hose rolled over the Erskine Flying Fleet, 9-0, in their season opening game at Martin Stadium on Saturday night.

Carson Griffith, Iragi Kalala, Jourdan Spence, Sandro Rabarivony, Ryan Jeanfreau, Herman Furumo (two goals), Eddie Merck and Daniel Dalehaug scored goals for the Blue Hose.

FROM COACH FINOTTI
"I thought we were a little slow to grow into the game," said Presbyterian coach Nick Finotti. "It took 10- or 15 minutes to look like ourselves. I thought we had moments when we were really good tonight. We had a lot of positives. We pitched a shutout.  We played a lot of guys tonight, with a lot of young guys playing quality minutes. After the first 10-15 minutes, I thought we were locked in the rest of the way."

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Spence created Presbyterian's first scoring chance when he was fouled in the box in the 10th minute. The Blue Hose were awarded a penalty kick which Griffith deposited into the back of the net for Presbyterian's first goal of the season.
  • Griffith played a thru ball to Kalala at the top of the box. Kalala with some fancy ball handling ran past a Erskine defender and blasted a shot into the back of the net in the 13th minute.
  • In the 22nd minute, Jonas Sundli-Hardig corralled the ball near midfield. He passed to a Damien McGregor-Wickham streaking down the right side of the field. McGregor-Wickham crossed the ball across the box to Spence who tapped the ball inside the post giving the Blue Hose a 3-0 lead.
  • In the 23rd minute, Kalala pushed the ball up the field, passing the ball to Rabarivony to the left side of the box. Raborivony calmly slotted the ball into the left corner of the goal.
  • In the 58th minute, Jeanfreau made a run with the ball toward the right post. He lost the ball to a Erskine defender near the goal line but he was able to get in back and from a difficult angle near the goal line he blasted a shot into the upper left corner of the goal.
  • In the 77th minute, Furumo scored his first goal off an assist from Sonny Simpson.
  • Then, Merck chipped the ball over Erskine's goalkeeper's head from about 20 yards that banged off the crossbar into the net in the 78th minute. Jeremy Siau set the score up with a beautiful pass.
  • In the 83rd minute, Furumo tallied his second goal of the game off an Merck assist.
  • Then, in the 88th minute, Daniel Dalehaug closed out the scoring with a shot from about 15 yards out that went into the top left corner of the goal.
