CLINTON, S.C. –
Triston Wilson led five Blue Hose double-figure scorers with a career-high 21 points but Presbyterian (8-11, Big South: 1-3) lost to the UNC Asheville Bulldogs (11-6, Big South: 2-1), 96-87, at the Templeton Center on Saturday afternoon.
Wilson scored 21 points while shooting 7-for-9 from the field.
Jamahri Harvey scored 14 points while connecting on three three-point field goals.
Kobe Stewart and
Quadir Pettaway scored 12 points apiece.
Kaleb Scott rounded out the Blue Hose double-figure scorers with 10 points.
Presbyterian behind the scoring of Wilson and Pettaway finished the game with a 41-11 advantage in bench points.
HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST HALF – Presbyterian's
Iverson King scored the game's first two points at the free throw line. Then, UNC Asheville scored seven straight points taking a 7-2 lead two minutes into the game. UNC Asheville pushed their lead to 29-19 with ten minutes left in the half. A dunk from Scott spurred the Blue Hose on a 10-0 run capped off by a three from Pettaway which tied the score at 29 with 7:11 on the clock. Pettaway scored six points and Scott scored the other four points during Presbyterian's scoring run. UNC Asheville connected on a free throw putting the Bulldogs back in front. Presbyterian's Wilson scored five straight points giving Presbyterian a 34-30 lead with 4:58 left in the half. After another three from Pettaway, the Blue Hose led 41-37, UNC Asheville scored eight of the final 11 points of the half taking a 45-44 halftime lead.
SECOND HALF – UNC Asheville started the second half scoring with a three. The Bulldogs would increase their lead to 64-56 with 13:17 on the clock. Presbyterian scored 16 of the next 23 points taking a 72-71 lead after a dunk from Scott with eight and a half minutes on the clock. UNC Asheville scored seven straight points taking back the lead for good. Presbyterian went on a 6-1 run cutting UNC Asheville's lead to 79-78 after another inside score from Scott. However, Presbyterian was not able to regain the lead for the rest of the game.
