ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The Presbyterian College women's basketball team (4-13, 2-2) defeated the UNC Asheville Bulldogs (2-14, 0-3) with a final score of 60-56 behind a 25-point career-high performance from
Paige Kindseth.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Quarter
Kindseth came out firing as Presbyterian surged to a 12-0 lead. While the Bulldogs managed to get on the board, Kindseth quickly responded with another basket. Asheville then scored five straight points before
Ashley Carrillo entered the game and made an immediate impact with back-to-back buckets. The Bulldogs answered with a pair of jump shots to trim the deficit to 18-12, but Kindseth closed the quarter strong with a layup, securing a 20-12 advantage for PC after the first 10 minutes.
Second Quarter
UNC Asheville picked up the pace in the second quarter, forcing an early Presbyterian timeout after taking six unanswered points and tying the score at 20-20. After the short break,
Kishyah Anderson took Presby's first basket of the second quarter, but a triple from Asheville's Skylar Bailey flipped the lead. Anderson continued to fight as she took the next two field goals, regaining a 26-23 lead for the Blue Hose. Not long after, Kindseth hit a jumper before a solid defensive stand from Presbyterian, ending the first half 30-26.
Third Quarter
Kindseth opened the second half with two points before the opponents took the next five to make it a one-point game at 32-31. Once again, all eyes were on Kindseth as she scored the next five points, which included an impressive three-point play. After the media timeout,
Aminata Tal got on the board with a driving layup. Asheville was able to pick up four points late in the third quarter, but Anderson ended the period with a layup, keeping the Blue Hose in front 41-35.
Fourth Quarter
The final quarter of play began with an exchange of points, setting Presbyterian's lead at 45-38. Despite a jumper from Kindseth, the Bulldogs began to close the gap at 47-44.
Shelby Fiddler sank a jump shot before Asheville called a timeout with 4:13 left in regulation. A big three-pointer from the opponents cut PC's lead to two-points before Fiddler answered with a triple of her own. Asheville held the pace as they cut the difference back to two points with another three. This time Kindseth was the one to answer for Presby, as she notched a critical three-point play with 3:03 remaining.
Sonia Sato drew a foul and added a pair of free throws, extending Presbyterian's lead to 56-50.
Laney Scoggins added a layup, but the Bulldogs were able to hit six free throws to cut their deficit to 58-56. Kindseth drew a foul to give PC a three-point lead before some solid defense from the Blue Hose sealed the victory 60-56.
NOTABLES
- The Blue Hose recorded 38 points in the paint with 13 points off the bench.
- Kindseth finished with a career-high of 25 points while notching 13 rebounds to earn her fifth double-double of the season.
- Anderson totaled 14 points, marking her 10
th double-figure scoring performance of the season. She also added seven rebounds and six assists to her efforts.
- Scoggins finished with four points, six rebounds, and a steal.
