CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College women's basketball team (4-14, 2-3) lost to the High Point Panthers (9-10, 4-2) in Templeton Center on Saturday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Quarter
Daniella Velez opened the scoring with a three-pointer to give Presbyterian an early lead. Both teams traded baskets, with the Blue Hose holding a slim 7-4 advantage. However, High Point responded with a 10-point run to surge ahead 14-7.
Ashley Carrillo broke the Panthers' streak with a fast-break layup, but High Point answered with a triple to extend their lead. The Panthers closed the quarter leading 17-9.
Second Quarter
High Point carried their momentum into the second quarter, starting with a three-pointer followed by a quick basket.
Kishyah Anderson answered for the Blue Hose with a contested jumper in the paint, and
Aminata Tal added a three-pointer to keep the offense alive. However, High Point quickly countered with a triple of their own, prompting Presbyterian to call a timeout, trailing 28-15. Anderson kept battling, grabbing an offensive rebound and scoring to cut into the deficit, but the Panthers responded with a three-point play to stretch their lead to 32-17. Anderson added another basket, and Velez closed the half with a jumper in the paint. Despite their efforts, the Blue Hose entered halftime down 35-21.
Third Quarter
High Point came out strong in the second half, opening with a quick three-pointer followed by a pair of free throws. Anderson tried to ignite the Blue Hose offense with a triple, but the Panthers continued to dominate, extending their lead to 44-24.
Paige Kindseth checked in and made an impact with a smooth fadeaway jumper. After a brief exchange of baskets, High Point called a timeout with the score at 46-28. The Panthers remained in control, scoring back-to-back field goals before Anderson connected on another three-pointer, helping Presbyterian cross the 30-point mark. High Point added a layup before the media timeout, maintaining a comfortable 52-32 lead. The quarter ended with a trade of points, leaving the Blue Hose trailing 56-37.
Fourth Quarter
The final quarter began with
Aminata Tal driving to the basket for a layup, but High Point answered by drawing a foul and sinking both free throws. Velez knocked down another three-pointer to energize the Blue Hose, yet the Panthers responded with a seven-point run to pull away further. Anderson ended the streak with a mid-range jumper, and Kindseth added to the offense with a bank shot, sparking a five-point run for PC. Despite the late effort, High Point's consistency at the free-throw line widened the gap. The Panthers closed out the game with a 75-47 victory.
