CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College women's basketball team (4-15, 2-4) fell to the Charleston Southern Buccaneers (7-12, 3-3) after a hard-fought four quarters on Wednesday evening.
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Quarter
Charleston Southern struck first, sinking a layup, before
Kishyah Anderson drew a foul to put PC on the board. We saw another basket from each side before Presbyterian called a timeout to send us to the media break. Another layup from the opponents gave them the lead before
Ellie Southards knocked down a three to tie the game at 6-6. The Buccaneers regained the lead after taking the next four points, but Anderson picked up a contested layup and hit a pair of free throws to even the score. A late free throw from the Buccaneers gave them an 11-10 lead after one quarter.
Second Quarter
Shelby Fiddler opened the second quarter with a triple, but CSU answered with a three-point play. After another bucket from Charleston Southern, the Blue Hose took five unanswered points behind a three-pointer from
Daniella Velez. The Buccaneers were able to go on an eight-point run, taking a 24-18 advantage.
Sonia Sato's contested layup ended the opponents streak, but again the opponents came away with a seven-point run. After some back-and-forth, the first half ended with CSU in front 37-26.
Third Quarter
Charleston Southern hit a three-pointer to begin the second half which began a 10-point run and brought their lead to 47-26. Fiddler ended the Buccaneer's streak with a solid three-point bucket and Anderson followed up with a layup. An exchange of points brought the score to 55-35 with just over two minutes left in the third quarter. Southards hit her second triple of the night and Sato made a layup to cut into PC's deficit.
