Blue Hose Drop Back-and-Forth Clash with Longwood

FARMVILLE, Va. – After defeating Newberry as their first win on their home court this season, the Presbyterian College women's basketball team (2-12, 0-1) opened Big South Conference play against the Longwood Lancers (10-5, 1-0) where we saw eight lead changes and five tied scores, with the win ultimately going to the Lancers 68-56.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Quarter
The Lancers got on the board first, but Presbyterian answered with nine straight points led by three-pointers from Ellie Southards and Shelby Fiddler along with a solid three-point play from Aminata Tal. Longwood was able to rally back and tie the score at nine points apiece, but the last four minutes of the first quarter belonged to the Blue Hose as Fiddler led the charge with five points, giving Presby a 17-9 lead after one quarter.

Second Quarter
Longwood came out strong in the second quarter, quickly evening the score at 17-17. Once again, the Blue Hose pushed ahead behind five points from Tal and a triple from Kindseth, regaining the lead 26-19. The Lancers answered with the next eight points, swapping the lead to their favor 27-26. Fiddler came up with a last second jumper to give the Blue Hose a 28-27 advantage heading into the halftime break.

Third Quarter
Fiddler opened the second half with a bang as she nailed a three-pointer, setting the tone for PC. The opponents responded with nine of the next 10 points, taking a 36-32 lead. Their streak came to an end when Tal drained a layup, followed by Daniella Velez's triple. The Lancers pushed back, taking a 46-39 lead, but Kindseth's jumper and yet another three-pointer from Fiddler kept it a two-point game. A pair of Lancer buckets set the score at 50-44 at the end of the third quarter.

Fourth Quarter
The Lancers extended their cushion to 57-46 early in the final quarter before Kishyah Anderson's layup halted their streak. Some back and forth saw five more points from Anderson, but Longwood was able to take the win, 68-56.
