CLINTON, S.C. – Behind three double-figure scorers and a strong defensive performance, the Presbyterian Blue Hose (9-12, Big South: 2-4) topped the Charleston Southern Buccaneers (6-15, Big South: 2-4), 71-61, in the Templeton Center on Wednesday evening.
Kobe Stewart scored 16 points while dishing out four assists.
Kory Mincy scored 16 points and grabbed five rebounds.
Carl Parrish added 11 points off the bench to the Blue Hose's efforts.
Iverson King grabbed 10 rebounds.
Jaylen Peterson contributed with nine points and three blocked shots.
Presbyterian's defense held Charleston Southern to 61 points which is 12 points under their season average. The Blue Hose defense limited Charleston Southern to 37.9 percent shooting from the field and 18.8 percent shooting from beyond the three-point arc.
HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST HALF – Stewart scored the game's first basket as the Blue Hose scored six of the first eight points. With Presbyterian leading 10-9, the Blue Hose scored eight of the next nine points taking an 18-11 lead after Peterson converted on a free throw with 12:43 on the clock. King and Mincy also scored during that stretch. The Blue Hose maintained a lead of 4-8 points until Parrish knocked down a three from the wing giving PC a 37-27 lead with 2:21 left in the half. Jamahri Harvey from the wing gave the Blue Hose their largest lead of the half, 42-29. Presbyterian took a 43-31 lead into the locker room.
SECOND HALF – Behind baskets from Harvey and Mincy the Blue Hose pushed their lead to 46-33 two minutes into the half. During a stretch of the half, Stewart scored six straight points for the Blue Hose increasing Presbyterian's lead to 52-37 with 15:35 on the clock. The Buccaneers scored 11 of the next 13 points cutting PC's lead to 54-48 with 10:56 on the clock. Then, PC went on a 6-0 run behind two baskets from Mincy and a layup from Parrish pushing their lead back to double-figures, 60-48. Charleston Southern cut Presbyterian's lead to 60-53, with eight minutes left in the half. Presbyterian closed out the victory with solid defense and timely baskets from
Kaleb Scott, Parrish, Mincy, and Stewart over the final eight minutes of the half.
