Blue Hose Fall Short in Overtime Shootout Against Winthrop

CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College women's basketball team (4-17, 2-6) fell short in overtime against the Winthrop Eagles (11-10, 5-3), despite Kishyah Anderson tying her career-high of 23 points.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Quarter
Anderson started the first quarter off strong as she notched the first two baskets of the night. Winthrop got on the board, but Paige Kindseth and Shelby Fiddler kept the Blue Hose's momentum going with two points each. After an exchange of points, Anderson knocked down a three-pointer, extending Presby's lead to 15-7. The first 10 minutes of play ended with the Blue Hose leading 17-9.

Second Quarter
Ashley Carrillo opened the second quarter with a bang as she nailed a triple to set the tone. Not long after, Fiddler knocked down a three from the left side, extending Presbyterian's lead to 25-13. The Eagles took the next bucket, but from the same spot, Fiddler drained another three. The Eagles outscored PC 6-2 before the end of the first half, however the Blue Hose held onto the lead 30-21.

Third Quarter
Anderson took the first basket of the second half, but Winthrop quickly answered with a triple. The score was set at 34-26 with the Blue Hose holding an eight-point cushion when PC called a timeout. Anderson took the next field goal before the Eagles were able to make it a one-point game, scoring nine-unanswered points. The Blue Hose answered with the next five points, led by four from Anderson, before a basket from each side made the score 41-35 at the end of the third quarter.

Fourth Quarter
The Eagles opened the fourth quarter with some steam, scoring five unanswered points and cutting their deficit to one-point. Ellie Southards responded with a solid three-pointer before drawing a foul and sinking both free throws. A three-point play from the opponents cut their deficit to 46-43 with 6:41 left in regulation. Fiddler's name was called once again as she sank another triple. The next five points went to the Eagles, once again cutting their deficit to just one-point. Kindseth's driving layup kept the Blue Hose in front, but the next five points went to Winthrop, giving them the lead 53-51. Fiddler's pullup jumper tied the game with just under two-minutes remaining. Solid defense from both sides left the score at 53-53 after the end of regulation.

Overtime
The Eagles won the overtime tip and used it to their advantage, scoring the first seven points. Anderson halted the Eagles streak with a layup before Winthrop answered with a two-point jumper. Ultimately, the overtime victory would go to Winthrop with a final score of 67-58.
