Blue Hose Battle Bulldogs to 1-All Tie

CLINTON, S.C. – On a beautiful Wednesday night at Martin Stadium where senior Lindsey Malyszek secured her fourth goal of the season, the Presbyterian College women's soccer team ended with a 1-1 draw against UNC Asheville in the third Big South Conference match of 2025.

A perfectly-ran three-touch play by Malyszek, Sloan Spees, and Allie Williams in the 23rd minute allowed the Blue Hose to lead 1-nil after the first frame. Asheville answered with just over 10 minutes to go, however, sending the match to a stalemate.

Wednesday was PC's first tie since the season opener against The Citadel back on August 14, out-shooting the Bulldogs 15-7 and directing eight on-goal attempts.

Head coach Matt Smith's group is now 3-6-2 with five contests remaining (all in league territory). They'll be the visiting side for their next two bouts, traveling to Longwood this weekend.

FINAL SCORE: Presbyterian, 1 – UNC Asheville, 1

HOW IT HAPPENED

- Presby was certainly the aggressor as they pursued their first conference win, spreading out 11 corner-kick opportunities and leaping to the early advantage on Malyszek's 12th career goal at the 22:31 mark.

- As part of the double-assist on Malyszek's first-half make, Williams is now tied for the most helpers of anyone in the Big South (four).

- The Blue Hose defense returned to its early-season form in the opening period, allowing a single shot-on-goal that came on a free kick heave. Coincidentally, another free kick in the 80th minute is what morphed the match from a PC win to a draw.

- Asheville's Akari Kishida flipped the game upside down on a deep shot at 79:17, just passing the outstretched arms of keeper Febe Dombrecht.

- Presbyterian did not concede another shot to the Bulldogs for the rest of the night, turning up the pressure on the offensive end to nab three attempts in the final eight minutes.

- Spees served up a close-range ball that would have been the game-winner with nine seconds on the clock, although Asheville netminder Gracie Murray bumped it out of danger for her seventh and final save.

- This was the first tie between the Blue Hose and UNC Asheville since 2014. The winner of this annual matchup alternated every year between 2017 to now, giving both PC and the Bulldogs their first point in the Big South standings.

UP NEXT

- Presbyterian returns to Farmville, Virginia on Saturday for the first time since arguably the program's greatest-ever victory last November.

- Coach Smith's club played the Lancers to a scoreless tie after 110 minutes before winning 4-2 in a penalty kick shootout to advance to the Conference Tournament Semifinals for the first time ever.

- Then-senior stopper Kelly Hall drained the match-winning PK to send PC to the round of four, the program's first win in a Division I postseason game.

- This weekend's clash in the Commonwealth State is due for a 2:00 start, televised on ESPN+. Longwood was victorious on Wednesday in a 1-0 result over High Point, getting through for the only score of the evening in the 16th minute.
