RADFORD, Va. – The Presbyterian College volleyball team dropped a Big South road contest to Radford on Friday, falling 22-25, 22-25, 21-25 to the Highlanders. The Blue Hose went back-and-forth with Radford for most of the first two sets but were ultimately unable to capitalize, dropping PC to 0-4 in conference play.
Presbyterian outhit Radford in both of the first two sets, but the Highlanders used a 45-32 advantage in kills and a 5-2 edge in service aces in the match to claim the win.
SET ONE – RADFORD 25, PC 22
- In a back-and-forth opening frame featuring eight ties, PC was able to take the lead early in the set, grabbing a narrow 12-10 advantage over the Highlanders.
- Radford responded with five straight points to build a 15-12 lead over Presby. The Blue Hose stayed close as the set continued, never trailing by more than three, but the Highlanders never lost their lead the rest of the set.
- Late in the set, Anisa Dorlouis recorded the first PC service ace of the match to tie the set at 20 apiece. The Highlanders then rallied again with three straight points to hold a 23-20 lead.
- The Blue Hose cut the deficit to one behind kills from Brittney Daphnis and Courtney Williams, but Radford took the final two points to take a tight opening set. The Blue Hose outhit the Highlanders (.182 to .179) overall to start the match, but Radford had three more kills (14-11) in the set.
SET TWO – RADFORD 25, PC 22
- PC jumped on the Highlanders to start the second set, winning six of the first seven points highlighted by kills from Elyse Hutchinson and Emma McHatten.
- The Blue Hose maintained their advantage early, taking a 10-6 lead before the Highlanders rallied to cut into the deficit. Radford used a 7-3 run to eventually tie the set at 13.
- Yurkovich and McHatten helped the Blue Hose regain the lead over Radford shortly after in the set. A block by Dorlouis and Daphnis later in the set gave PC a 20-17 advantage.
- Radford's fourth service ace of the set broke a 20-20 tie to put them up 21-20. Presby tied the set at 22 after two kills from Julia Yurkovich before the Highlanders took control once again at the end of the set. Radford won the final three points of the set to take a 2-0 lead.
SET THREE – RADFORD 25, PC 21
- Once again, the third set started as a back-and-forth affair between the two teams. Aubrie Arnold recorded PC's second service ace of the match with the set deadlocked at 10.
- The Highlanders grabbed control right after PC took an 11-10 lead, taking seven of the next nine points to build a commanding lead over the Blue Hose.
- The Blue Hose staged one final rally to inch their way back into the set to cut the deficit to 23-19 and then 24-20. However, Radford finished out the match shortly after to win 3-0.
NOTABLES
- Anisa Dorlouis led the way for the Blue Hose with 25 assists and 14 digs, logging her 13th double-double of the season.
- Julia Yurkovich led PC in kills with nine. Aubrie Arnold led the team in digs for the match with 19. Arnold and Dorlouis each recorded service aces as well for the Blue Hose.
- Emma McHatten tied her season-high in kills with seven.
