Reigning Big South Champs Come to Clinton as WSOC Faces Upstate

CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College women's soccer team enters the closing stretch of the 2025 regular season tomorrow night, looking to earn a ticket to the Big South Tournament against last year's champions. They'll meet USC Upstate at 7:00 Wednesday from Martin Stadium.

ESPN+ will be streaming the event between two South Carolina rivals located less than an hour apart. The Blue Hose will aim for a resume-builder against a program who has picked up 37 victories throughout the last four years.

PC and the Spartans were fierce foes in 2024, battling to a 2-2 tie in the regular season and then playing a rematch in the conference semifinals. Upstate emerged with a 2-1 win on that night, with all three goals happening in a six-minute window.

As things sit currently, Presbyterian has one point in the Big South standings due to a 1-1 tie against UNC Asheville. Including tomorrow's duel, just three matches remain on the Scotsmen's schedule.

SCOUTING THE SPARTANS

- USC Upstate has chugged right along following their title campaign in 2024, overcoming a late-game surge by PC in the semi's and blasting High Point 3-0 to claim the championship.

- The Spartans have won four of their last five encounters (the only blemish being a one-point loss to Radford), most recently shutting out Longwood in a two-nil decision.

- Tied with the Highlanders for the most points of any Big South team (12), Upstate hasn't missed a beat since head coach Sharif Saber abruptly resigned from the position in late September.

- Interim coach Mark Laudenslager has led Upstate to a pair of league wins since the change in leadership, helping the Spartans to a 4-1 record in conference competition.

- Picked to repeat as Big South champions in the preseason poll, Upstate is led by senior striker Dara Russo who has produced 12 points this semester (23 last season).

LAST TIME OUT

- PC ventured to High Point last weekend, another opponent who was in the league title picture a year ago. In the end, HPU grabbed a 3-0 victory with two quick second-half strikes that were one minute and 14 seconds apart.

- Emilia Lieber and Sloan Spees were responsible for Presby's two shots-on-goal, as the Blue Hose were held without a corner kick for the duration of the match.

SUPERB STATS

- With at least three matches left in what's been a stellar career repping the blue and garnet, senior attacker Sloan Spees lacks one more goal to become the school record-holder in the Division I era (2007 onward).

- She landed her 16th strike in a Senior Night triumph over Alabama A&M, now tied with Sara Simpson who has held the PC record since 2013.

- Second-year rising star Allie Williams found her fourth assist of the season in a tie with UNC Asheville, tying her with two others for the most in the Big South.

- Rookie stopper Febe Dombrecht holds the fourth-highest number of saves per match among the nine regular starters in the conference (4.6). She has 42 total deflections across her debut year.
