Presbyterian Falls at Home to USC Upstate

CLINTON, S.C. – The Presbyterian College volleyball team finished the weekend with a loss to USC Upstate on Saturday afternoon, falling 18-25, 20-25, 20-25 to the Spartans at the Templeton Center.

 

Courtney Williams and Julia Yurkovich paced the Blue Hose offensively, combining for 13 kills. Aubrie Arnold registered 14 digs defensively as well. The Blue Hose drop to 2-7 in the Big South on the season.

 



SET ONE – USC UPSTATE 25, PC 18 

- Presbyterian won three of the first four points to open the match, but the Spartans quickly responded to build an 11-6 lead early.

 

- Kills from Julia Yurkovich and Brittney Daphnis cut the USC Upstate lead to just two before the Spartans separated again from the Blue Hose. A 6-0 run helped the Spartans go ahead 19-11 and take a commanding lead.

 

- PC was able to cut into the lead with three kills from Emma McHatten, but the Spartans took the opening frame 25-18 to start the match.



 

 

SET TWO – USC UPSTATE 25, PC 20

 

- The two teams went back-and-forth to begin the second set. A kill from Elyse Hutchinson gave PC a 5-4 lead before USC Upstate embarked on a 7-0 run to grab an 11-5 advantage.

 

- PC responded with three straight points and kept the deficit tight until late in the set. A service error from the Spartans followed by an attack error allowed the Blue Hose to tie the set at 18.

 

- However, USC Upstate finished strong, only dropping two more points the rest of the set. PC cut the lead to 23-20 before the Spartans won the final two points of the frame to take a 2-0 lead over Presbyterian.



 

 

SET THREE – USC UPSTATE 25, PC 20

  

- PC battled in the third set to take an early 8-5 lead highlighted by kills from Yurkovich and Anisa Dorlouis.

 

- The Blue Hose maintained a 10-8 lead before a 6-0 run from the Spartans gave USC Upstate the momentum.

 

- Presbyterian was able to cut the lead to one a couple of different times in the middle of the set, but another late run from the Spartans clinched the win. USC Upstate led by just two up 18-16 and then later 22-20 before the Spartans took the last three points of the match to clinch a 3-0 win.



 

NOTABLES

 

- Anisa Dorlouis recorded 26 assists and 9 digs for the Blue Hose. This is the first time she has not recorded a double-double since PC faced Quinnipiac on Sept. 21.

 

- Emma McHatten recorded 6 kills for Presbyterian, her most since Oct. 10.

 

- Brittney Daphnis led the Blue Hose in blocks, recording three.  



 

UP NEXT

 

- The Blue Hose will be back on the road next weekend, taking on Winthrop on Friday (Oct. 31) at 6:00 pm and Gardner-Webb on Saturday (Nov. 1) at 6:00 pm.
