ROCK HILL, S.C. – The Presbyterian College volleyball team suffered a 3-0 defeat to Winthrop on the road on Friday (Oct. 31) evening, falling 24-26, 18-25, 13-25 to the Eagles. The Blue Hose erased an eight point deficit in the first set, but the Eagles were able to inch ahead to start the match before taking the next two as well.
Julia Yurkovich paced PC offensively once again, tallying a match-high 11 kills. Anisa Dorlouis led the Blue Hose in assists and digs, recording 19 and 17 for PC.
SET ONE – WINTHROP 26, PC 24
- The Eagles came out firing, quickly building a 7-2 lead over the Blue Hose to open the match. Julia Yurkovich helped PC stay in it early, but Winthrop maintained a big advantage, going up 16-8 to force a PC timeout.
- Out of the timeout, the Eagles grabbed a 20-13 lead before PC charged back. The Blue Hose went on an 8-2 run to cut the Winthrop lead to just one.
- Winthrop briefly went up 23-21 before Yurkovich helped the Blue Hose respond again, winning three straight points to create a set point for PC.
- Winthrop saved the set point on an attack error and finished the set strong, winning the final three points of the set to take the opening frame 26-24. The Blue Hose rallied from an eight point deficit early but still trailed in the match 1-0.
SET TWO – WINTHROP 25, PC 18
- The Blue Hose started off much better in the second set, rattling off three of the first four points. Winthrop quickly tied the set up before two kills from Anisa Dorlouis helped PC take an 8-5 lead.
- Winthrop took the next four points to take the lead back, but the Blue Hose responded by taking four of the next five points to gain a 12-9 edge, forcing an Eagle timeout.
- After the Winthrop timeout, PC extended the lead to 15-10 before the Eagles began to take over. Winthrop embarked on a 9-2 run to flip the script, taking a 19-17 lead.
- A kill from Elyse Hutchinson got the Blue Hose to within one, but Winthrop finished the set winning the final six points to grab a 2-0 advantage in the match.
SET THREE – WINTHROP 25, PC 13
- The Eagles dominated from the jump in set three, winning the first five points and six of the first seven. The Blue Hose fought back into it, cutting the lead to 9-8 behind a kill from Ava Smith.
- Presbyterian continued to stay close in the middle of the set. The Blue Hose trailed just 13-12 before Winthrop took control.
- The Eagles dropped just one more point the rest of the match, winning 12 of the final 13 points of the match to clinch a 3-0 win over PC.
NOTABLES
- Julia Yurkovich led the Blue Hose in kills for the fourth time in five matches.
- Anisa Dorlouis posted her 18th double-double of the season, registering 19 assists to go along with 17 digs. Her 19 assists is her first time recording fewer than 20 in a match since Oct. 4.
- Ava Smith logged her first kill since the Blue Hose faced Radford on Oct. 10. She also recorded four blocks against the Eagles, tying the second most of her career.
- Amaris Alvarez posted a season-high in digs for PC with 12.
