BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – The Presbyterian College volleyball team suffered a loss to Gardner-Webb on the road on Saturday afternoon (Nov. 1), falling 19-25, 21-25, 26-28 to the Runnin' Bulldogs. PC drops to 2-9 in the Big South.
Anisa Dorlouis finished with 29 assists and 13 digs for the Blue Hose. Elyse Hutchinson tallied four blocks.
SET ONE – GARDNER-WEBB 25, PC 19
- Gardner-Webb took the first three points of the match to open proceedings. Shortly after, the Runnin' Bulldogs grabbed a 7-3 lead over the Blue Hose.
- Gardner-Webb extended itslead to 14-7 before PC started to chip into the lead. Back-to-back service aces from Sophia Del Valle and kills from Ashley Miller and Elyse Hutchinson helped the Blue Hose go on an 8-2 run to trail only 16-15.
- The Runnin' Bulldogs grabbed the momentum right back, taking control of the rest of the set. PC cut the lead to 19-17 behind a kill from Anisa Dorlouis, but Gardner-Webb pulled away. The Runnin' Bulldogs took the opening frame 25-19.
SET TWO – GARDNER-WEBB 25, PC 21
- Like the first set, the Runnin' Bulldogs grabbed the first three points of the second frame. Presbyterian settled in to follow but still trailed 14-8 in the middle of the set.
- Kills by Courtney Williams and Hutchinson helped the Blue Hose get back into it. PC cut the lead to three, but Gardner-Webb was able to keep a narrow lead.
- Late in the set, PC went on a 5-1 run to trail by just two. Two kills from Williams and two aces by Julia Yurkovich helped PC cut the deficit to just 21-20. However, Gardner-Webb finished off the set right after, claiming the set 25-21 to take a 2-0 lead.
SET THREE – GARDNER-WEBB 28, PC 26
- The Blue Hose got off to their best start to a set in the third frame, jumping out to an 8-3 lead highlighted by kills from Ava Smith and Emma McHatten.
- The Blue Hose led by as much as seven up 13-6 after back-to-back blocks before Gardner-Webb began to come back. The Runnin' Bulldogs rallied to trail only by one down 19-18 to force a PC timeout.
- Out of the timeout, PC kept a narrow lead and set up a set point up 24-23 to extend the match.
- In the end, the Blue Hose had three set points but were unable to capitalize to extend the match. Gardner-Webb took advantage of its lone set point and clinched the win in three sets.
NOTABLES
- Anisa Dorlouis logged her 19th double-double of the season, recording 29 assists and 13 digs. She also logged three blocks for the Blue Hose.
- Aubrie Arnold led the Blue Hose in digs, posting 17.
- Elyse Hutchinson has registered four blocks in three of her last five matches for PC.
- Julia Yurkovich recorded a career-high in service aces.
