PC Returns to Longwood for First Time Since Conference Tournament Win

FARMVILLE, Va. – Competing at Longwood for the first time since the program's finest hour last November, the Presbyterian College women's soccer team will continue the 2025 Big South Conference gauntlet by lining up with the Lancers tomorrow at 2:00.

ESPN+ will be on hand to provide coverage of the crucial conference meeting, as the Blue Hose look to repeat their fortunes of a penalty kick shootout in last year's league quarterfinals that allowed them to pick up their first postseason W of the Division I era.

Head coach Matt Smith's club drew first blood earlier this week in a hosting capacity versus UNC Asheville, although the Bulldogs punched back in the 80th minute to end with a one-all draw.

Presbyterian and Longwood have dueled to a tie in four consecutive matchups dating back to 2022, with PC edging out the higher-seeded Lancers 4-2 in PK's to send the Scotsmen to the Big South Semi's 11 months ago.

SCOUTING THE LANCERS

- Longwood's quest to return to the postseason started strongly, winners of their first three encounters against Alabama A&M, American, and VMI.

- After losing or tying their next six matches, long-time head coach Todd Dyer's crew has won a pair of Big South bouts with Gardner-Webb and High Point.

- Both of those league victories were decided by a 1-0 count, as was Longwood's only conference loss to this point at the hands of in-state rival Radford.

- Last season's all-conference first-team pick at goalkeeper, fifth-year Charleston Southern transfer Sara Curtis leads the division with four shutouts this year. She has allowed 13 goals in 12 appearances.

LAST TIME OUT

- Presbyterian set the offensive tone on a cloudless night at Martin Stadium last Wednesday, ending a dry spell of goals at 22:31 with Lindsey Malyszek's fourth connection of the fall.

- PC out-shot UNC Asheville 15-7 and scattered eight on-target attempts, not to mention 11 corner-kick opportunities created by the Blue Hose.

- Ultimately, a free kick by the Bulldogs turned the match into a tie, happening with just over 10 minutes on the clock to give Presby their first draw since the season-opener versus The Citadel.

- Malyszek's first-half hit featured a double-assist by Sloan Spees and Allie Williams, already the fourth helper this season for the latter which is tied for the most of any player in the Big South.

SPEES RECORD WATCH

- Speaking of Spees, the senior captain needs just one more goal to become PC's new career Division I record-holder (spanning back to the late 2000's).

- The three-time all-conference member is currently tied with Sara Simpson in a bid to break a 12-year old mark, pursuing her 17th career score that would put her solely at the top of the Blue Hose record book.
