Parrish Drops 22, Lifts Blue Hose to Thrilling Road Comeback Win Over Panthers

ATLANTA, Ga. – Junior guard Carl Parrish scored 22 points, including the game-winner in the closing seconds, as the Presbyterian Blue Hose (3-1) rallied from a 10-point halftime deficit for a 63-61 road win over the Georgia State Panthers (0-3).
 
Redshirt senior Jonah Pierce chipped in with 14 points and seven rebounds. Sophomore guard Erik Taylor scored 11 points while dishing out six assists. Redshirt junior forward Jaylen Peterson scored 10 points and grabbed eight rebounds.
 
In the second half, Presbyterian shot 52 percent from the field.  
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST HALF – The two teams began the game exchanging threes with Parrish connecting on PC's first three. Georgia State scored four straight points before another from Parrish three cut the Panthers' lead to one point three minutes into the game. Georgia State scored eight of the next nine points, taking a 15-8 lead at the 13:34 mark.  With Georgia State leading 19-10, Presbyterian scored seven of the next 11 points, cutting the Panthers' lead to 23-17 after a turnaround jumper in the lane from Iverson King with 6:17 left in the half. One of the highlights during a run was a monster emphatic dunk from Peterson at the 8:09 mark. However, that would be as close as the Blue Hose would get to Georgia State the rest of the half, as the Panthers took a 35-25 halftime lead.
 

SECOND HALF 
– The Blue Hose began the half on a 7-0 scoring run behind baskets from Taylor, Peterson, and Pierce, trimming Georgia State's lead to three points. Georgia State connected on a three, ending the Blue Hose's scoring run. At 13:49 on the clock, Georgia State had pushed its lead to nine points, 44-35. Pierce scored inside, getting the Blue Hose within seven points. Georgia State scored, pushing their lead back to nine points, 46-37, with 11:43 on the clock. Presbyterian went on a 17-5 run over the next six minutes to take a 54-51 lead after Taylor converted a three-point play with 5:29 on the clock. Parrish scored eight points during the game-changing scoring run. Presbyterian maintained a lead of 3-5 points for the next few minutes. With Presbyterian leading 61-56 at the 2:40 mark, Georgia State scored five straight points, tying the score at 61 with 22 seconds on the clock. The Blue Hose called a timeout. Coach Quinton Ferrell drew up a play, and Parrish took the ball from the top of the key toward the baseline, where he floated a runner over the hands of a Georgia State defender into the basket with two seconds on the clock for the game-winner.  
 

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE
  • Parrish's 22 points was his third double-figure scoring game of the season and the 19th of his career. Parrish connected on five three-point field goals.
  • Pierce's 14-point performance was his third double-digit scoring game of the season and the 17th of his career.
  • Taylor tallied his first double-figure scoring game as a Blue Hose with his 11 points.
  • Peterson's 10 points was his fifth double-figure scoring game of the career.
  • Redshirt freshman Chidi Chiakwelu blocked three shots in the game.
