SCOUTING THE TORNADO
- A regular winner of the Southeast Region Championship until the Blue Hose swept in and knocked them off their throne last winter, King has had a quiet start to the fresh season with just one tournament appearance and zero duals to this point.
- The Tornado were victorious in 21 of their 24 duals last season, including a 25-21 decision against Presbyterian in their last visit to Clinton 12 months ago.
- After settling for third-place in the regional bracket last year, King performed exceptionally well at Nationals in Iowa with a fifth-place standing (one spot above Presby's final resting place of sixth).
- Seven King wrestlers earned All-America accolades back in March. Incredibly, they have not lost a dual on the road since October of 2011, riding a 29-match winning streak as the visiting party.
YORKTOWN + BLUE HOSE CHALLENGE
- Head coach
Brian Vutianitis and company had a hectic two-day stretch last weekend, participating in the "Throwdown on the Yorktown" where they dueled #1 Iowa and Delaware State aboard an active military naval ship. Less than 24 hours later, they hosted the Blue Hose Challenge tournament for the second year in a row.
- PC was unsuccessful against the defending national-champion Hawkeyes, but rebounded strongly in a 40-6 triumph versus Delaware State. At the Blue Hose Challenge, seven PC wrestlers came in the top three of their respective weight class.
- Sophomore
Maria Aiono (207) and rookie
Kaylie Hall (160) both finished atop their brackets on Sunday, giving the Blue Hose four individual titles in only two tourneys this semester.
- Also in Templeton, four Presby wrestlers came in 2
nd place (
Paige Wehrmeister,
Isabella Gretzinger,
Henlee Haynes, and
Grace Leota), while freshman
Jenna Anderson nabbed 3
rd in class 117.
