CLINTON, S.C. – In a highly-entertaining tug-of-war between the last two Southeast Region champions on Friday night at Templeton Gymnasium, the sixth-ranked Presbyterian College women's wrestling team was defeated by #7 King 25-16.
The Tornado managed to claw back from an early eight-point deficit to win five of the final six encounters, save for a 10-0 technical fall by sophomore
Isabella Gretzinger that pulled PC within four.
Presbyterian started off the dual in strong form, using a 1:25 pin from
Chloe Dearwester, an 11-2 decision by rookie
Jenna Anderson, and a 12-0 tech by
Alyssa Mahan to jump ahead by eight.
All four of King's nationally-ranked wrestlers would prevail to gradually turn the tide, eventually tying up the team score at 12 apiece with a 5-0 decision by fifth-ranked Virginia Foard.
That was part of a 16-0 King run that allowed the visitors to emerge victorious, dropping PC to 4-2 on the season (with both of those losses coming to fellow top-ten programs).
Seniors
Lexi Fornshell and
Paige Wehrmeister were both recognized in a special Senior Night presentation prior to the beginning of the dual. Those two have combined for 99 total wins over their PC careers and eight tournament titles.
