ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Behind a stifling defensive performance and three double-figure scorers led by
Carl Parrish's 21 points, the Presbyterian Blue Hose (5-5) cruised past The Citadel Bulldogs (2-6), 69-41, at the Harrah's Cherokee Center in Asheville, North Carolina, on Sunday afternoon.
Parrish shot 5-for-6 from beyond the three-point arc on the way to his 21 points.
Josh Pickett also connected on five three-point field goals for 15 points.
Jonah Pierce rounded out the double-figure scorers with 13 points.
Triston Wilson grabbed eight rebounds and dished out seven assists in the win.
Presbyterian's defense held the Bulldogs scoreless for the first eight minutes. For the game, Presbyterian limited The Citadel to 30.4 percent shooting from the field and 31.8 percent from beyond the three-point arc.
HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST HALF – Pierce put the first two points of the game on the board with a score in the paint 39 seconds into the contest. Presbyterian scored the game's first 17 points with Parrish, Wilson, and
Jaylen Peterson scoring during the Blue Hose's early scoring run. After Pierce scored inside with five minutes on the clock, the Blue Hose had increased their lead to 30-8. At halftime, Presbyterian would lead 33-17.
SECOND HALF – Presbyterian scored the first four points of the half, quickly increasing their lead to 20 after a free throw from Pierce with a minute and a half gone on the second half clock. At the 14:27 mark, The Citadel had cut PC's lead to 43-27, then, PC went on a 14-2 scoring run capped off by a dunk from
Iverson King, giving the Blue Hose a 57-29 lead with nine minutes left in the half. Presbyterian's final margin of victory was 28 points at 69-41.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE
- Parrish's 21 points marked his second 20-point scoring game of the season and the 23rd double-figure scoring game of his career. He tied his season-high with five three-point field goals made.
- Pickett's 15 points marked his first double-figure scoring game as a Blue Hose. Pickett's five three-point field goals were a season-high mark.
- Wilson's eight rebounds and seven assists were new career high totals.
- With his 13 points, Pierce has recorded nine double-figure scoring games this season and 24 in his career.
